Mainly to drink. And the "Cats" rejection plays into it as well.
Oh, wait... You want us to say
"Because we're secretly hungry for the truth that (fill in the name of your favorite god here) is real, and we're hoping to be convinced of that fact".
Right?

Because no one here talks about theology least of all theists. Add to that the fact that a good portion of questions including your own by the way are directed at atheists and a person wandering in might think the room was called "Ask an atheist"
==
"However, a lot of you guys are suggesting this question is aimed at Atheists...
I know my English and the question implies no such thing!
Stay rational now!"
I assumed you directed it at atheists because not directing it at atheists would just be irrational. If I wanted to know why you were here I wouldn't ask my neighbor so why would you presume non-atheists would know why atheists are here? Perhaps you should take your own advice. By the way atheist is spelled with a small 'a'.

Good question. I've wondered this myself. If they don't believe, they should be happy with that and leave those that do alone. If you "protesteth too much" about a certain topic, I was once told you are not sure of your belief regarding that topic. Maybe they are not totally convinced in their non-belief. Something keeps them coming back to this site. Ask them that, like you just did, and you will probably only get smart alec answers. Hey, I was right. Which proves to me that they are not totally convinced that "there is nothing there".

The discussion of Atheism would logically take place in the Religion and Spirituality section. Our lack of belief in god is a religion issue.

How many times must this question be asked? My answer is always the same:

If you have the opportunity, please distribute the above URL to any theist friends and acquaintances you may have. It's high time we got rid of the ignorance on the subject of why atheists are in this section and moved on to more interesting topics.

Because 1 in 10 questions start with "Atheists, do you (insert question here)"
I'll answer those. Also, I'll defend my opinions when people say things like, "Atheists have no morals, etc." because that is simply incorrect.

Now, how many times must we explain it. Atheists are a great asset to this section. They provoke great thought and liven things up around here. I can't imagine this forum without them.

One doesn't have to be religious to read about religious topics or spend time in religion groups. It simply means the topic is of interest to them.

I collect questions to atheists, such as this one.
You don't have to be religious to discuss religion.
