sorry no links but say a .44 mag pistol will shoot farther than a .22 lr.pistol and then are you wanting a scope or iron sights and then barrel length a 4" barrel will let the bullet go farther in overall distance but a 6"barrel will go farther accurately but all factors put together about 50-75 yards

The maximum distance that a handgun bullet can travel is around 1800 to 2500 yards depending on caliber and bullet choice. The 22 is in the middle of the pack at 2000, the worst are slow stubby 45s and the best are 44 magnums because they are going fastest to begin with.
Rifle rounds vary from 4-5,500 yards.
To sanity check this, the British 303 Mk8z round was a flat based bullet and has a claimed maximum range of 4117 yards according to Royal Ordnance.
Sorry for including rifle rounds, but I have a 308 Winchester handgun, single shot and with a 14" barrel. Why? Good question!
For what it's worth, maximum range is achieved at more like 30 degrees because drag is a square law, like a badminton shuttlecock, but a lot less pronounced.
See the tables in the article below.

Stagger Lee had a forty-four gun that could shoot a half-a-mile. LOL! Seriously, maximum effective range for a defensive handgun is 50 yards with 25 yards being more realistic and 15 yards being more practical. Of course, a Contender with a 14" .308 barrel will shoot further, but the .308 is really a rifle caliber. Police officers normally are not required to qualify with their sidearms at further than 25 yards.
Best.

In the hands of an average (average being the keyword) a full size service pistol (approximately a 5 inch barrel) in mainstream calibers like .45acp, 40 S&W and 9mm, is accurate to about 25 yards.
Now obviously a more experienced shooter can do better, but that is what your average everyday person could do.

Depends what you mean by how far can it shoot.
How far will the bullet travel if the barrel is elevated approximately 40-45 degrees and the gun fired - for centerfire handguns, 2 or 3 miles, give or take, depending on the caliber. (obviously a .22 out to a mile)
How far accurately and effectively? Accuracy is in the hands of the shooter (provided the gun itself is accurate and matched with good ammo). Effective (knock-down) power depends on the caliber - I wouldn't trust a 9mm beyond 50 yards to be very effective. A .44 magnum, 100 yards or better.
Lots of variables here...

Well that is a long ways. Depends on what hand gun what cartridge it is shooting and if you are shooting a +p or +P+ load in it.
I can take my Kimber Custom II and hit a 12" steel 7 out of 8 times at 100 yards. now for a 45 acp.
But maximum range is different for each handgun and cartridge.

the distance is determined by the powder strength of the round. It can be anywhere in a range of 900 feet per sec(or lower) to 1250 fps(or higher).Thats the real quick answer but there are numerous papers on the subject here's a start,Good luck.
