I'm not keen on the name myself, but here's the origin of it,
Cora
English: name apparently coined by James Fenimore Cooper for one of the characters in The Last of the Mohicans (1826). It could represent a Latinized form of Greek Kore “maiden”. In classical mythology this was a euphemistic name of the goddess of the underworld, Persephone, and would not have been a well-omened name to take.
hope that helps.

Cora Munro is the African-American/ English heroine of James Fennimore Cooper's classic novel, "The Last of the Mohicans" (1826), which was set during the French and Indian Wars. If you like the sound of the name, read the book or rent the 1992 move, starring Daniel Day Lewis (with Madeleine Stowe as Cora), and then decide for yourself if you want to name your daughter Cora. Another version of the name Cora is Coretta, the name of Martin Luther King's widow, Coretta Scott King. Coretta sounds a little more contemporary than Cora.
