They use the same credit card machine reguardless if you dine in, carry out, or get delivery. If you pick up a pizza, just ignore the tip line, put the total under total so they can't add more later, and sign.

Yes....you always tip delivery people.
If you didnt in the past, youve probably eaten quite a bit of spit and such, not to mention Im sure your pizzas take much longer than everyone elses.
__
By the way, the restaurant program in credit card processing terminals always puts a tip line. Unlike a store program, the restaurant one verifies a primary amount, then when you add the tip it transmits a second time for the updated info-that is why it shows up a day or two later sometimes. There is no way to remove the tip line in most programs, so its going to be there even if you dont need it.

The issue HMark is speaking of with the overcharge is more likely a claim on the money. Technically over 150% can be held at authorization, that additional is then adjusted to be what the tip is and the rest just disappears.
However, always put something in the tip (0 if nothing) and add it up just in case. Most people are honest and a computer issue makes it look otherwise, but its still best to be cautious.

Restaurants have the same credit card machine with the same receipt format for eat in and pick up, so of course there was a line to leave a tip. For delivery I would tip, for pizza pick up I wouldn't, yet for restaurant food I called in and went to pick up, I would leave the server a small tip on the credit card receipt because they spent time getting my order ready and boxing it up for me, time spent away from their dining in/tipping guests...

Like Answer number 2 said, you can write it. Just write it on the receipt somewhere. Or call the pizza place up and approve a tip being posted to your credit card. When I get pizza delivered, they have a line for the tip and a line for the grand total. I put the tip in there.

Not when you pick it up. Most restaurants have those lines I think it's just standard for the type of credit card machine they use. They may use this same machine for when people get the pizza delivered. I never tip when I'm picking up food and I don't think it's expected.

You always tip for delivery. It is a standard practice. And most restaurants put a tip line on their receipts even if they don't normally receive tips. Simply draw a line through the tip portion and write out the total amount on the line that says total. That way they won't be able to write in a tip.

You were always supposed to tip the delivery guy for a pizza delivery. If you are picking up the pizza, I wouldn't tip.

If you are just purchasing an item NO. If someone performed a task for you in serving or delivering the pizza YES. I think we are taking the tip situation to a ridiculous place.

When paying with a credit card, it is geared towards restaurants, but if you're picking up the pie yourself, I'd put "0" in the tip section and make sure that you add it up. I've had unscrupulous people try to fill in the blank once when I was in a hurry, but caught in on bank online and call them up. They denied it, but then I noticed that the appropriate amount was re-charged.

If you had the pizza delivered or you ate in the restaurant part of the pizza place, yes you should tip.
If you picked up the pizza you don't have to tip.
