Christmas: The commercialized, formerly religious excuse to eat, drink, and be merry, currently responsible for 40% of annual retail sales.

i became raised Christian. My mothers and dads (now a million former-xtian and a million Lutheran) have a pair days of the 12 months set aside to get excitement from eachother's corporation (frequently), have an incredible meal, and now and returned substitute presents or in basic terms sit down around the fire sipping whiskey for some hours. what form of an fool would not connect interior the festivities? i'm no longer likely to church, hell we hardly went on holidays besides- we in basic terms celebrated these days for the reason that became custom and it became relaxing. i don't have a faith telling me i'm no longer allowed to the two :) so i'm able to social gathering it up any way i prefer to. On Christmas or Easter, i'd desire to have fun ANY form of holidays, because of the fact the dates and intensely a number of the traditions from those holidays have been form of borrowed from countless different cultures. Wanna know the humorous difficulty approximately this question? the persons who heavily ask it, on no account take think of roughly Christmas trees, colored eggs, Easter bunnies, Santa or the different trip mascots and traditions you may desire to think of of that originated from before cultures and via years of custom have been branded new meanings and given new names and practices. i think of once you're gonna ask something, you will discover added information there. Asking it extremely is extraordinarily pointless, heresy would not word and atheists do no longer likely have all of us to offend by applying having relaxing on "somebody else's" trip. How dare we.

I'm sure a lot of them do. Most likely for the giving of gifts. But truthfully, a real atheist would not celebrate christmas at all, as it is a celebration of the birth of Christ. We give gifts to one another in honour of him. As He was a gift to the world, and also, as King of Kings, he was given gifts upon his birth. So this all is symbolic, just as the taking of communion is symbolic of showing respect for his death and resurrection.

*edit* above, Angel, yes certain traditions are pagan, but not all. Christians didn't adopt pagan tradition, but those that did not believe in God adopted those traditions to irradicate the giving of honour to Christ in celebration of his birth. Therefore that is why there is the incorporation of both christian and pagan traditions during the holiday. Besides, why do you ignorantly assume all christians think that's the day he was born? We do not, but that is the standard day assigned to celebrate his birth, so that's why we celebrate.

i am not 100% atheist because i do believe in something just not the "god" that so many do. I celebrate x-mas because its a warm loving time to spend with family and friends, there is something about x-mas that really makes problems go away at least until the new year lol.

I think Christmas is just a reason to get the family around the table and exchange gifts. nothing more. there's nothing wrong with spreading cheer and happiness to those less fortunate either. But it's a pagan holiday coinciding with what Pope Sixtus made popular as to be Jesus' birthday, which it is not. And bible passages will tell you that.

Yes, because we want to have a family day of fun and gift giving. What's wrong with that? We don't connect it to Christianity because it's a made up holiday. Jesus wasn't born on that day and you Christians don't own the 25th of December. I celebrate all holidays I enjoy in the fashion I see fit. I have no god to answer to. I also am not superstitious so there's no reason not to have as much fun as possible in life.

Christmas is actually a pagan ritual that the Christians adopted as their own to "convert" pagans to their religion. Look it up.

What Christmas really is, is a holiday that embraces love, family, and giving. In reality, it has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus. He wasn't even born on this day!

Yes, but we celebrate Christmas on December 26th by dancing around our cash registers singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus".

Yeah. It's like asking why Christians celebrate Halloween because it is fun.
