I got my nose done on Saturday. Around the stud, my nose is kinda red and swollen. I took the stud out but then the pierced hole had a little bit of fluid coming out. I don't know what to do, I'm using antiseptic. I'm not sure if it's infected. How long do I have to leave it for until it heals and I can change the studs? Please help... :(

Thanks, girls! You have been amazing :) I'm not gonna touch my nose (unless for cleaning) for another two weeks.

It's fine, you had it pierced a few days ago. It's not infected, however stop fooling around w/it and taking the jewelry out. You're making things worse! The swelling and redness will take a few days to subside. Fluid is normal, it's healing. You cannot change the stud until it is completely healed. Taking the jewelry out delays healing and makes you even more susceptible to infections. Piercings take about 6-9 weeks to heal, however the first time you change the stud you should have your piercer do it for you. Have then look at it to make sure that it is fully healed. Do NOT use hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, betadine, bactine, neosporin, or any other tpe of ointment on it! Those things will do more harm than good. They'll dry out the piercing, delay healing, and kill good bacteria. Clean it twice a day w/a warm sea salt soak, and spray it 3-4 times a day w/h2ocean. You can pick up h2ocean for about $10 at Hot Topic or any piercing shop. Don't touch your piercing w/dirty hands, and leave it alone as much as poissble.
p.s. signs of infection are:
1. Redness
2. Swelling
3. A greenish/yellow discharge
4. Sorness and pain
5. hot to the touch
Redness, swelling, and a bit of soreness are normal for you right now, because the piercing is still fresh.
If you do get an infection at any time do NOT take the jewelry out. Doing so will allow the piercing to close up, trapping the infection inside, and forming an abscess. Go see you piercer asap.

Do not worry, it is not infected. It is healing.
It is also normal for a small kilo scar (a small bump by the hole) to appear. If you are worried about anything though, go bak to the place where you got it peirced and they will be happy to help.
As long as you dont clean it too much, or not enough then it shouldnt get infected. Also be carefull of the stud you wear as some types of metal can react badly (mine did). Be carefull about the antiseptic you are using as it could kill the wrong type of germs therefore prevent healing, make sure it is suitable.
It should take about 3 months to heal completely but you can change studs before then just dont change them too frequently. I would wait about 6 weeks before you change the stud though.

no offense to Rhonda, but please don't listen to her...NEVER use hydrogen peroxide on a piercing..it destroys the scar tissue forming in it to keep it open..you should also NEVER take out a piercing when you have even the slightest though that it could be infected..what you would be doing is closing the infection inside of your body and that's not good at all..if you had just gotten it done of course it's going to be red and swollen..wash it twice a day with antibactieral soap, and DON'T take it out anymore..you're only making the situation worse..don't touch it unless your cleaning it and careful with makeup [foundation] cause that could cause infection as well.. it should start to look better in a week, if it doesn't drop by your piercing shop and ask him what else you should do..good luck!

You are supposed to wait a while before you can change the stud. I can't remember how long i waited, but it was a while. It's better to be safe than sorry.

it is infected, take the stud out, take a cottonball soaked in peroxide, squeeze your peircing a few times, soak your stud in peroxide at the same time.... take the stud out of the peroxide... coat the entire thing in neosporin and reinsert in your nose, wipe the access neosporin and repeat this method a few times a day... you definitely have an infection, and the peroxide will clean and disinfect as well as treat the infection and the neosporin will heal the infection as well... if it is swollen and red, its an infection hon
