In my opinion that is why the Catholic church is failing. They are too caught up in tradition & not focusing on what christianity was founded on.

I went to a catholic church a couple of times in different places. Each time I was dumbfounded by all of the ceremonial clothing, chanting, recited prayers, and heirarchy of the church. They like to call it Catholocism. According to Websters' dictionary, these acts are the definition of the word "cult". What really saddens me is that they have physical control over ancient written scriptures and other writings that actually define Christianity and refuse to let the public see anything. They have no right whatsoever to keep this information from the rest of the world. How can you trust a religion that apparantly doesn't trust you? How can you trust a church who picked through what it wanted and didn't want to be in the final version of the Bible? This is identical behavior to mobsters of the last mid-century. See what they show you, hear what they tell you, and if you question them, you're excomunicated. Kicked out like it's a member's only club. It's a good thing I don't follow those nuts. Kissing the Pope's hand, praying to him, and bowing to him like he's any better a person than I am. I thought that was called idolitry? Doesn't worshipping an idol cancel your subscription to heaven? Wasn't that frowned upon when Moses came down from the mountain and his people had made an idol to worship? Well, call me stupid, but it's not right, and I truly feel sorry for the people that blindly follow these loons.

We don't, dum dum. We follow the bible but we also have traditions of celebrating Christ like Christmas. We don't do "anti'biblical activities"! If you want to say that, also go after the Protestants, the Jewish, the Lutherans, the Mormons, and the Greek Orthodox. Tradition is part of every religion.
Why would you put a question like this on here? Kind of prejudice isn't it?
Email me if you have more questions.

Um...the Bible is FULL of traditions, so I don't know where you get your one verse thing? Anyway, the whole canon of Scripture (i.e., which books are in the Bible and which aren't) are based on tradition because the Bible doesn't say which should be in the Bible.
Christ established traditions ("Do this in remembrance of Me," among others...), He observed traditions, He followed traditions -- why would you think traditions are bad if Christ obviously didn't?

I've never been Catholic - but being raised as a minister's kid....I understand your question.
There are many people that need the physical rituals that go along with their spirtuality.
I see the traditional rituals in the Catholic church as more of a "security blanket" to many of it's believers.
There are lots of folks that need to have a physical response to a spiritual beliefs.
What difference does it make if they are not biblically based..... it's the intention they are performed with that's important.

I'm confused...the Bible is a tradition itself.
Either way, they were created by humans. The humans who put into motion the "extra-biblical" traditions have more power in sway in this world than do the long-deceased authors of the Bible.

if you are a christian, you already know the answer to that question: I'ts the same o'same o', when people regardless of what religion or denomination they are in, begin to "add" or "take" away from the Original word of God, all they end up with is adding burdens to the people that God never meant to be in His Word. The pope has made himself the vicar of Christ, we all know it's true, but to Jesus we are all called to be ambassadors for Him, it's not about us, religion, denominations or traditions, it's all about Jesus, plain and simple. focus your life on what Jesus commanded, and don't worry about what the world is doing, their cup is almost full, and they will be the ones to have to drink it.

the Bible says, "Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed." John 3: 20 (NIV)
this means, no one wants to admit they have sinned, or that they are sinners. Jesus had much conflict with the so called religious leaders in his day and condemned them.

Be wary of singling out any one faith and listing its problems. Any faith has its share of aberrations because human beings are in the mix.
To pass judgment or be critical of a faith, and to then lump all of its believers together as if they are responsible for its problems amounts to unfair prejudice.
Faiths tend to drift from the tenants of their origins because of many reasons: political, economic, and cultural influences are a few of the reasons.
Try to be more open minded and realize that no one faith has cornered the market on error.
