But what do you expect when your questions are completely ignorant of almost everything?

Depends - how good is the question?
I am a post-modern Christian, and given the 300-year old tendancy to present the Bible as equally valid from start to finish I would almost never give this as an answer. For some people the Bible is just tainted beyond repair....

I'm not trying to be a smart-aleck, Sara, but answer to what? What question or topic are you talking about? I've given many answers that dont' mention the Bible at all, but when the question is along the lines of "Why do you inbred morons believe the Bible says so and so?" it's kind of hard to answer without referring to it.

In some cases, yes.
If somebody asks, "Why did Abraham have to build an Ark when he lived in New York City?" - the best response is, "read the Bible."

If you want to know the truth, go to the primary sources. All others are hearsay. So read the Bible, if you want to know what the Bible talks about. Don't rely on secondary sources that may be polluted or corrupted.

Whenever I suggest that someone were to "Read the Bible" it is not to offend but caring. Think during the early stages of Americas beginning there was usually one book that could be found across our great land, read, loved, respected by every person here - it is a sorry state of affairs that we have brought ourselves and our children to these days.

Sometimes that's the answer, but i see how that can get frustrating. Perhaps when you receive the worn out "read The Book" you should push the Christians your talking to for actual scripture that they have read. Keep us on our toes.

Only the ones who don't have the faith to believe that God still reveals truth to us today.
I think it's a matter of spiritual laziness: it is much easier to blame/refer to a book like the Bible than to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you in your heart right now. As far as I can tell, fundamentalism is all about taking the least resistant path to an easy-to-stomach truth.

Well...what is the question you want an answer to? And no, that's not the only answer a Christian can give to a question.

Sure, if you want to beat someone into submission, reading that pile of **** is better than a rubber hose.
