I don't believe that Jesus wanted to create a new religion. In fact, His followers (early Christians) didn't have in mind to create a new religion. After all, what they practiced would have been considered as NeoJudaism. But detractors gave them a name: "Christians", thus, those who followed the teachings of Jesus, known as The Christ, became known as Christians.

No Jesus(PBUH*) never intended to start a new religion. He was sent here to show his people about Islam the religion of ALLAH(subhanna wa ta'ala) and for all mankind.

The Savior (His name is YAHOSHUA) came to clarify a few issues regarding faith, and to die for my sins. He did not come to start "Christianity". That is a "Lawless" religion which totally repudiates the marriage covenant, and thus disqualifies itself for salvation.
