the father is another father not the son's father you said: A father
and 'his son' this statement means that the son was another man's son not the 'A father'. A father of another kid. So the doctor is the real son's father get it?

The "father" who's traveling down the road with "his" son is actually the son's step-father. The doctor is the real genetic father.

Either the doctor was the mother of the boy ... or the son was born to a mother that fooled around with the doctor & he (the doctor) recognized the name &/or knew it was his illegitimate child born to his mistress & her hubby (who had dies assuming it was his all along). Good question--have a star!

The doctor is his mother. That the doctor could be a woman is something most people don't think of right away.

I've always heard it as "...the doctor at the hospital sees the boy and gasps, "I can not operate on this child, he is my son."
But all the same. It's his mother.
