In my World Civilizations class the other day, we were discussing the origins of religions. We were on the topic of Christianity, and he was talking about the Holy Trinity. Now my question is, why is Christianity considered monotheistic if there is the Holy Trinity. Please enlighten me (for disclosure's sake, I'm atheist)

How are the three all the same one if Jesus is considered a separate entity from God?

Because the 3 are one.
Polytheism means multiple gods. There is only one God, and He is made up of God the Father, God the Son (who became Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.

Well Jesus is a Holy part of God, but whereas Jesus had a start and an end, birth and death, he is a part of God, you cannot say he is completely like the Holy Ghost, because he has no beginning nor end, therefore the reason to describe the trinity, the Word is another part of God :)

Think of the triune God as like a man who can be a father, a son and a husband, all at the same time.
There is only one God and He is manifest in 3 ways. Christ was God in the flesh, so He could tell people about heaven and hell. When Christ returned to heaven, He left His Holy Spirit to be a Comforter.
God bless!

The "Trinity" is such an important doctrine that the Roman church would not exist without it. There are many unholy trinities, and there is no "Holy" trinity. Scripture tells us of the Heavenly Father whose name is YHVH. Scripture tells us of a savior whose name is YAHOSHUA. THEIR spirit strives with men for men's salvation. Their spirit is NOT another being. Thus there are TWO, NOT THREE! There needed to be two so one could die for our sins and the other could keep the universe from going away at that time.

there is none. The Bible needless to say teaches that Jesus is the Son of God,no longer God. a million John 5:5. many non secular people will attempt to curve the scriptures of the Bible to attempt to intend that Jesus is God. whether it purely won't paintings. there is actual no help in the Bible for the Trinity coaching or the different coaching that teaches that Jesus is God.
