In school, i usually only have an apple for lunch...but we eat lunch at 10:05.
So around 6:40 i usually have cereal, 10:05 an apple, and then when i get home around 2:30 ill have something else, like a sandwich maybe. Is that healthy? I feel like if i eat lunch at 10:05, im just going to be hungry again after school anyway, so i might as well not eat the fattening food they have at school and eat a better lunch at home right?

No not really. Bring something to eat later in the day during a free or something

As a rule, eating 5 small meals a day is better for you than 3 big ones, and they should be spaced approximately 3 hours apart. If you go for longer periods of time without at least a snack, you can end up with glucose balance problems. It's bad for your glucose levels to have 6-7 hours between meals, and if you're hypersensitive in that area it can be a big problem. You sound like you've got a good schedule going for you; just eat around 5:30 or have another small snack about that time if you eat dinner later in the evening.

I think I would eat lunch, I figure that after 4 or 5 hours you'd want more than just an apple. Your body needs more fuel for you to run on. You can always eat a snack at 230, or whenever your off from school, and then eat dinner later.

You can always pack your lunch with something healthier if you'd like.

Good Luck :o)

is this healthy? not even close...each meal should be protein based and supplemented with carbohydrates and/or fats.

6:40 - have 2-3 cooked egg whites, a bowl of whole oatmeal and 1/2 grapefruit or an orange (about 250-300 cals)

10:05 - an apple is all sugar and only about 100 calories. bring yourself a salad with some lean poultry on top. (about 250-300 cals depending on the dressing used)

2:30 you need to have another meal here. some form of quality protein and some fiber and vegetables. something like a bowl of lentil soup would be perfect.

I think it's better to bring more food to eat than an apple. Don't you get hungry? I mean, if that was me, I'd be SO hungry by the time I got some from school that I would probably make bad food choices. Get somre more protein in your breakfast AND your lunch--try nuts (like almonds), for example. While high in fat, it only takes an ounce or so to hold you over and they are loaded with nutrients and fiber.

It is better to eat five to six smaller meals a day vs. 3 meals -- keeps the blood sugar from dropping so that you'd feel really tired. Best rule of thumb on meals is to eat like a king for breakfast, like a prince for lunch, and like a pauper for dinner. You don't want to sleep on a full stomach!

Sounds like you have a really good plan in place. Good for you!

I have heard that it is healthier to eat several smaller meals a day instead of 3 larger ones. As long as you drink plenty of water and get a moderate amount of exercise, it sounds healthy to me.

That is good thinking. It is better anyway to eat more small meals throughout the day. 6-10-2 like you described for meals is perfect and as long as your eating healthy food, your good.
