Long term memory is being able to recall things that happened in the past.

Short term memory is remembering things you have just been told.

Long term memory is the last to deteriorate. Short term memory loss is seen with head injuries and in elderly people.
Such as did I take my medication today., or were have I put my glasses.

LTM is where you remember an experience from a while ago. Like you remeber talking about a movie with your brother last thaksgiving. STM is like you remeber a commercial you seen five minutes ago. But you likely wont remeber it 6 months from now
