Hi Sandy,
It is my belief that the Parable of the sower is the starting place for all Christians. The different soils are the four stats of man and his relationship to God. As Jesus taught the hardened soil cannot be penetrated by the seed. this man is somewhat like the people who answer all religious questions with a snide answer. Cold and indifferent toward God and the things of God. The rocky ground is a person who hears the word, but turns away shortly after hearing it to follow a path of destruction. The Thorny ground represents a person who hears the word and receives light to walk in. Who walks for a while, but after the cares of life come they let the troubles of life keep them from the word, or Gods house or praying. before you know it, they are doing the things they were before they received the light,( which we all know is Christ). Last of all, that good ground, Praise the Lord Jesus Christ and God the father for preparing the heart for which this soil represents. When Christ comes to a person and through the Holy Spirit convinces a person that they were without strength to get to him, and void of understanding, until he placed within them the words of truth and gave them the ability to believe that what he said was the truth. The very act of conviction isn't what a person feels when they go to a service and get excited about what is going on around them. Conversion is a process just like tilling the ground to prepare it for the seed. Jesus through the office of the Holy Spirit comes and speaks to a heart and through that process of convincing the heart either becomes ready for the seed or begins to harden. I thank him for prepareing my heart and helping me see He is the Pearl of Great Price.
your sister in Christ

The hard heart is like solid hard ground and the word never penetrated because nothing grows out of a solid hard surface , Seed thrown on top is eaten by the birds which is the devil in the parable. These people cannot and do not accept the Gospel unless God breaks and shatters that ground.
The stony ground heart is the one who gets all emotionally excited, but it's superficial, on the surface, no depth, no real understanding. These are the fakers and the counterfeits who cry and make false professions but there is no real sincerity and no true genuine repentance. Just worldly sorrow but not godly sorrow.
The thorny ground heart, the word does not take root because of the lack of depth. They are too attached to the things of the world, and are blinded by the deceitfulness of riches. There is no real seriousness about the Gospel and when the true faith of the Gospel come they cannot stand. Their lifestyle of pleasuring the flesh is more important that pleasing the Lord. The Gospel is unfruitful meaning it did not produce salvation, another false profession. False faith produces no fruit.
The Good earth is the one who's heart is ready and prepared to receive and produce. Faith with the works to demonstrate their understanding and obedience. God opened the heart and mind to understand and receive and therefore the life is transformed. True believer.

Hardened earth (or falling by the wayside) - Hardened heart. Zero penetration whatsoever. Person doesn't care to hear the gospel.
Rocky earth - The mood strikes and excitement rises, the person accepts Jesus, but when the feeling subsides or hard times fall on them, so does the will to grow. The person falls back into old ways and probably harbors some resentment because they tried Jesus and he "didn't work".
Thorny earth - Person accepts Christ or wants to, but people and circumstances around him crop up to confuse and "choke out" his newfound belief.
Good earth - Heart is open and ready for Christ to move in.

1) Hardened earth: a hardened heart condition that does not accept the seeds of Bible truth because they are not open to it
2) Rocky earth: a heart condition that is like 'rich soil' and is acceptable, but when rocky times, trial and tribulations come, the seed cannot grow in their heart because they allow these things to get in the way.
3) Thorny soil: is when seeds fall on fine soil, but opposed people cause the seed not to grow...
4) Good earth: Rich soil and the person's heart is receptive....

. Mark 4:30 And He mentioned, to what shall we study the dominion of God? Or by potential of what parable shall we study it? :31 it is nearly a grain of mustard seed, which, while it is sown interior the earth, is decrease than each and all of the seeds that are interior the earth. :32 yet while that is been sown, it grows up and turns into greater beneficial than all herbs, and shoots out super branches, as a manner to enable the birds of the air to roost decrease than its shade. :33 And with many such parables He spoke the word to them, as they have been waiting to pay attention it. :34 yet he did no longer talk to them and not utilising a parable. And while they have been by myself, He defined all issues to His disciples. .

Hardened earth - basically, the atheist of whom is so stubborn, that they refuse to believe you no matter what evidence is put before them.
Rocky earth - the man of whom would crush the seed and bury it to ignore it.
Thorny earth - the man of whom absorbs the knowledge but puts every excuse in the way to hinder it.
Good earth - The man that absorbs all of what is said by God and shares it with his fellow man to be nurtured and grow.

The parable is interesting, but is guilty of casting aspersions on people who rely on tangible evidence for belief.
According to the parable, 'Good' earth are people who are open to suggestion. History and life has proven otherwise. People open to suggestion, are often led to do tremendously harmful things.
