Talk to your boyfriend. Tell him what you heard and ask him whats up. He is the only one who knows the answer.

ignore them. Don't believe it until your boyfriend says he wants to break up with you.
As for what to say to them..."And this is your business...how?" or "Why does this concern you?" or "Has he lost his voice and hired you to speak for him?" or my new favorite response to a busybody question---with your face blank, unemotional...just say "Wow." Unless they are a clueless social pariah, they will be left speechless.
