Why are so many people allergic to kiwi's?

All the reports I've seen give the reason for the rise in allergic reactions to kiwis is that more kiwis are being eaten. Sounds obvious doesn't it! Apparently kiwis used to be regarded as an "exotic" fruit and was expensive so fewer people bought and ate them.

I dont kno. Im allergic to kiwi and so is my best friend and her dad. I didnt kno nobody really knew about it cause there really r alot of people allergic to kiwi

I haven't heard of a large number of people being allergic to kiwi fruit, but there are probably a good number of people who can't and don't eat them because of intestinal issues such as Crohn's disease in which fruits like kiwi and strawberries with lots of small seeds are bad because the seeds aren't easily digested.

I really doubt people are allergic to kiwis. I mean it is possible, but I think people get irriatated from kiwi is because of the tiny hairs. I know this because when I eat a kiwi my tongue gets really itchy on the cause of the tiny hairs. I hope this helps.

I believe the substance responsible for the allergy is called "anthocyanin" but I'm not sure
