I moved in with my dad a few weeks ago. My dad's girlfriend has two cats and my cat didn't really pay any attention to them at first. About a week later, however, we can't get her to leave them alone. She's growl at them all night under my dad's bed and keep him awake and during the morning she sleeps. If he tosses her out of his room at night and into my room she cries all night and I don't get any sleep. The cats are scared to death of her and want nothing to do with her. They spend all their time in my dad's room :-( I feel so bad. My dad thinks we're going to have to send my cat back to live at my old house in chicago (which has two cats too and she got along with them fine). Any suggestions?

The same thing happend with my cat when we got our dog. They'd fight and growl and cry all night and day. After time, they got used to eachother, and now they get along great.

If you don't think time is your favorite option, (I don't blame you!) is there a room in the house that the cat can be shut in at night? We used to put our cats food bowl & litter box in the laundry room before, and shut him inside at night.

First of all is she spayed? If not schedule an appt. right away. Cats usually take quite a bit of time to get used to each other. And some get to the point of tolerance but never friendly. My parents have a cat that is 13 years old and another cat that is 11 they have been together for the entire 11 years and they Will tolerate each other enough enough to be in the same room but any closer than opposite sides gets growling started. You may try Feliway spray or plug in also it's supposed to help calm cats down in stressful situations. Good Luck

It takes a while for cats to adjust...especially after a move. This can be a stressful situation for a cat...so she needs to be given some credit and sympathy.

Once the cats have established eachother's space they should calm down. Although, they may never become friends they will learn to tolerate one another. Saying exactly how long this will take is difficult.....

Perhaps try those Feliway plug ins..you can buy them at PetSmart...they are said to calm cats...you can try herbal calming sprays...above all don't punish the cat it is not her fault that she is stressed by the move and she expresses this by crying...

Just give her lots of love and attention and try to play with her a lot...invest in a laser pointer...and before everyone goes to bed play with her...this will tire her out from all the chasing and hopefully she will sleep more throughout the night....cats usually sleep all day when their owners are away...and they are more nocturnal by nature as well....

Well, your Dad is probably right, because your cat is not happy with the situation and miss`s his friends, I do hope the home in Chicago will take him back.

Hope the best for you and your cat.

What is it with people these days that when a animal or person doesn`t act the way you want them too, you drug them into submission ?

Keep the tv or radio on low volume, this often keeps a cat quiet.
