We all hate the cold and the bull crap of NY State. Especially the cold. Now that our kids will be going to college we would get cheaper in-state tuition here but I am sick of being shut in the house from October until May.

I'd love it if everyone agreed to move to some place like Houston, TX. We are used to getting 3 bd. houses in safe areas for $75K however and none of us are willing to live in the ghetto. My husband is a drug and alcohol counselor; there is a need for those in every city. My business and my license is portable. My sister's business and license is portable. Her husband would have to find a job but he is a skilled welder. My brother would probably join us as he is a perpetual student and my mother, well, we would just have to knock her out, pack her stuff, and have her wake up in another state. As for my MIL, she won't go anywhere as long as her sister is alive but they hate the cold too. The older folks need a cheap, safe place with apartments.

Any ideas?

The most important thing is that I have rheumatoid arthritis and if I don't get out of this weather I am going to end up in a wheelchair.

People always make fun of Alabama but I love it.....You have many options...by the beach...in the city...out in the country. But it's up to what you think you can handle. There are plenty of nice cities throught out this state. Look at some real estate online. The weather here is real humid. From the end of April to early September it is atleast 70 degrees...Last year we were in the low 70's until the first of December... Just put lots of thought into it. It's a big decision!!

Well, your first priority is to get hired by a US company that's willing to get you a work visa. That's not likely to happen unless you have a rare skill or experience that's not easily found in US workers. With our high unemployment rate, that's not likely. However, if you're independently wealthy and won't need a job, it may be easier. The US State Department website has info on immigration/visas. You might want to check websites such as "Places Rated" or "Best Places" for info on different areas in the US. There are also real estate websites that can give you an idea of the cost of homes in various areas. Personally, I wouldn't want to live in Texas, but YMMV.

Texas is a great place! Doesn't ever get too cold. It doesn't ever go below 0 either.

It hardly snows. Its more like grass mush. The only time you wear a big heavy coat is when it is really cold and that hardly ever.

I have a big coat and I have only worn it twice.

There are lots of apartments in Fort worth or near by cities.

Im sure there are other cities just like where I live that are safe and the price you want. Florida is always warm too but then theres always a risk for Hurricane season.

We don't get Hurricanes in texas but there are Tornados sometimes.

The first thing to do is for your husband to put out feelers for a position in some place warm. The rest can do that also, plus check out schools. As far as the parents go, do the research and find a place that they can go that they can afford, the only problem is the expense of moving. You might have to help each other out to get it done. Good luck and have a wonderful life.
