Because religious based governments always end up oppressing or discriminating against someone or some groups. We have several good examples around the world right now of religious based governments. Saying that the US was founded on Christian values is a little far fetched. I challenge you to find Jesus anywhere in certified government documents or the Constitution. The God that many of our founding fathers referred to is the God of Abraham. Many of those founding fathers were Masons. George Washington took the first oath of office on the New York Masonic Lodge's Bible. Christians, Jews, and Muslims all worship that same God, of course they vary in many ways. I'm for leaving "In God We Trust" on money and government seals and symbols. But I'm against prayer in school and religion being taught in school. Example, I wouldn't want a Pentecostal Teacher teaching my kids anything about religion and I'm sure they would not want me to teach their kids. That subject is better off at home and church. Biblical law as a template for national law? It pretty much is. If we made adultery a capital crime, more than half our population would be in jail! Murder, rape, stealing, lying under certain circumstances are crimes. Consider if we enacted laws based on Leviticus, where would we be? It's Biblical Law, but it make no since in this era of our history. I think I'm happier in a nation that is free to worship or not to worship as they see fit.

Because stating that it's a "Christian nation" strongly implies that Christianity is the government-mandated religion. It implies this to the rest of the world AND to U.S. citizens. The U.S. was never intended to be a theocracy - in fact, it was founded because people were sick of living in a nation with a government-appointed religion.

Why resist using Biblical law as a template for national laws? Because most Biblical laws run counter to our modern code of ethics. See, for example, the many references to killing disobedient children. Biblical law is simply not ethical by current standards. It is therefore unacceptable as a basis for modern national laws.

I believe the US is a melting pot of religions, and will never be acknowledged as a "Christian" nation again. In this forum alone, more Atheists circulate the R&S and bash Christians than any other "group." We (Christians) cannot even say "Merry Christmas" or have a public Nativity scene for fear it might "offend" someone else's religious liberties. Everyday, this nation strays further and further away from true Christian ideals, and it will continue to be this way. The blending of Christian beliefs and national law will never happen in this country where culture is absent and money is king. Many blessings to you, friend, I can't imagine the answers you'll get!

It is just a sign of the times and how society wants to become a broken morals type place. One of the main reasons that the God fearing and following believers out there need to pray for our leaders and get out there and vote as well as know what is going on in our governments agendas. I'm not resisting.

God Bless you and keep you.

People don't want to keep their minds on this, so we aren't all know as a christian nation. Theres no law stating we have to go by this as a rule.

Cool. I'm gonna stone some kids for not listening to me, plus sacrifice my daughter for greeting me at the door after I come home from battle.

Nothing weird about that, right?

Thanks goodness we have the Declaration and Bill of Rights.

People like you would be scary otherwise.

Christianity is the most violent of religions....right up there with Islam.

Look how many people have been slaughtered in "the name of God" - your god.

No thanks. You want your own country? Go take over another one someplace....Christianity is really good at that....and leave our free nation alone.

Biblical law is religious. America is secular.

While some Biblical law concepts are applicable to all ("Thou shall not steal"), others ("You shall have no other god before me") are not.

The basis of American law is the Constitution, which is a humanist document, not a religious one.

There is no logical reason to not claim our Christian heritage and the reason for the founding of our nation. The only explanation I can conceive of is that Satan is loose and trying all his lies to bring this nation out of God's favor before the return of Christ. Our laws so far are still founded on the ten commandments unfortunately they are not being implemented with fairness for all.
