Have a pecipe that calls for white balsamic vinegar i have white rice vinegar would that work

It depends on the application or recipe you're using. If the WBV is the major component of the recipe of formula then by all means use it if you can get it, like the others stated it has an underlying flavor. In a formulation of less then 25% vinegar then any acid can be used, even lemon. To reduce the high acid taste of the rice vinegar add 1/2 tsp. sugar and 1/4 tsp baking soda per 1C, it will foam up, when settled it will be more mellow tasting and can be substituted for your WBV.

Yes it will but it may not have the deeper notes as the basalmic vinegar would.

I have done this on occasion when I have not wanted such a strong vinegar taste to some dressings. Essentially rice vinegar is from rice wine and would have similar characteristics as the balsamic but not as concentrated. If you really want to get a rice wine vinegar to be a bit more like the balsamic.. reduce it by half.

Won't be the same. Balsamic vinegar isn't very acid- it's almost sweet.

They are ussually interchangeable but if you want to get the flavor right you will follow the recipe.
If you dont really care, go for it.
