I just started working at a new job, great right! Well their is this lady that has really latched on to me, she an older lady (late 50's) it started out she'd come sit with me during lunch and we'd talk, then she started giving me advise then she started saying that she's my mentor, I've noticed that no one talks to her, the reason is she's crazy- she always snapping out on people ( I witness it twice) and she gossip a lot, she has not did anything to me but I think it would be best to disassociate myself from her, how would you go about doing it or would you?

No, don't disassociate yourself however, keep your conversation strictly business and limited. You never know when, where or how you'll need someone. Most often the doors of professional growth are opened based upon who you know and by those of least expectancy. Smile, be polite and keep those doors open until she gives you a reason not to .

Ahhh, yes. She hasn't turned on you yet.

Be polite but firm, with her. Do not engage in gossip with her, do not tell her about your personal life, do not speak to her for any reason except to say good morning, good day, good bye, have a nice weekend and whatever communication is required to get your job done. Always be busy when she wants to chat. Try to have lunch away from her or with someone else.

That all being said also never engage in gossip about her, she will turn on you in her own time (she's crazy) but you shouldn't give her any fodder.
