A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that specializes in psychiatry. As such, he or she is able to make psychiatric diagnosis and specializes in treating pyschiatric and mental illnesses. They can prescribe medication and they can also do psycho-therapy/analysis.

Psychologists obtain a degree in psychology, not medicine. However, they are well qualified in psychological issues. They provide all kinds of therapy but cannot prescribe medication.

Well, some illnesses or disorders can be helped by seeing both in that you get diagnosed and prescribed by the psychiatrist and might do some therapy with a psychologist.

A psychologist has a PHD in therapy and a psychiatrist is an actual MD doctor. Psychiatrists can actually prescribe meds. You should go to both b/c you need therapy and medications.

psychologists can't.

One works with the medication and one works with therapy.
