Well you could always offer to get his jeep repaired and he could pay you back at his convenience! This is better than offering money! My advice to you is...offer to do this only if you are ready to forget the amount!!!

First of all, do not lend money to a friend you will ruin your friendship. If you want to help him out give him the money. If he offers to pay you back with money in hand then take it. If you are not prepared to give the money away then don't even offer. Maybe you have an odd job around that he could help you will to pay you back for the money.

Every time I lent a friend money, they never paid me back, so I would only do it if you can afford to not be paid back. In that case, I'd just say something like, I know with the holidays coming you might be strapped for cash to fix your jeep...I can lend you this much $ until ...say you get your tax money back or something.

maybe you could go to the jeep repair shop and pay some of his bill down. (just make sure they don't still charge him the full amount)
Better yet, give him the money to pay it. and don't expect it back.
Say ur friends and friends help one another out when they can. You guys have a long life ahead of you for him to pay the favor back.

Just tell him you'd like to help and that you have some spare money that you could really lend him in order to help fix the machine. Be friendly and natural as I'm sure you always are.

lending money to a friend can ruin the friendship! I'd just ask if there is anything you could do to help and if he does ask for the money, be prepared to just give it to him so that if you don't get it back there won't be hard feelings!

Make a trade with him.
Men justifiably don't feel it is right to get something for nothing - he doesn't want to end up owing you anything other than the money. However, they're willing to horse-trade.
I'll *LOAN* you this amount of money if you XXX for me.
Ideally, XXX would be jeep related - take me to such and such, etc.

if he has ever done a favour on lending you money then use that to give him the money. Or you can lend him the money telling him to have your back when you need money and remind him that friends always have eachothers
back and help eachother out.

Don't offer money unless you are ready to permanently kiss it goodbye. Money can ruin a friendship. He can take care of himself.

It is all in the way you say it. Don't say it like he's in dire straights, just say, "Hey man, if you need some help i'd be happy to help out!"
