Check out this verse from Bible...

But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)

I just hope that all this backwards thinking from ancient times can be reversed. It makes you wonder who Jesus was really representing. He was a Jew and yet he said that only the one without sin could throw the first stone. Why didn't Jesus throw a stone, then?

In those days, if you wanted to you could steal a woman from another town without asking her if she's a virgin and if you sack a town, you can take all the young women for your wife. And that's why they wanted to stone Jesus' mom and Joseph had to protect her. Yeah right, crime against Israel, for taking a lover. Yet the prostitutes were spared. Let the Jews explain it.

This is an old tradition and it's not part of God's spirit if there is such a entity. Israelites and the ones that came after took it from other cultures that once dominated them and established it as part of their own culture. The Bible was written by humans, at least most of it.

well, the muslims and fanatics are still doing this in this day and age....

It just goes to show how the BIBLE was written by a bunch of people with fanatical ideas. Anyone claiming these are GOD's words needs their head examined.

Its only been in the past few years that it has become socially acceptable for a woman NOT to be a virgin on her wedding night by the way. Prior to about the last 50 years, a woman was expected to be a virgin!! Now, girls are f ucking when they are 10 years old. Of course, in biblical times..women weren;t getting married when they were 25-30!!! they were getting married and having kids as soon as they started having their period.

.The ancient people had some good reasons for their prohibitions against premarital sex. However this solution has no place in the human race no matter who or what said it.

Why is it that us men are allowed to fool around as much as we want but the woman are punished for it. This thought process is true in both Christian and the other Mideastern religions.

The south sea islanders enjoined each others bodies with indiscretion and joy. That is until the Christian and other missionaries impressed upon them how wrong sharing each other was.

oh yes there are many things like that in the Bible. For instance, try finding where it says that being gay is anti-religious. It doesnt, if you'd like I can find the verse where there is an interesting bit about how a father gave up his virgin daughter simply because the soldiers should "prefer" a girl versus another army man.

I think your question is more on Biblical relevance rather than "Biblical inerrancy". The judicial proceedings on this matter may be flawless then, considering the life and times of women whence they were. But if we are to consider the lifestyles of women in our time, re-evaluation of the applicability of those laws might be in order. There might be times when we have to take the intent -- leaving the letter -- of the law so as to get the timeless applicability of its contents. We don't have to abide by what does not apply. Time is just running around; but every turn of event brings with it different characters, each performing his/her line within different contextual (cultural) settings.

There is more, just go to the trouble and read through Leviticus.
I wouldn't be concerned about a 1500 year old text, except that there are people around today who seriously want to bring us all back to those times.

I am told that certain religious groups are getting it (virginity) 'rebuilt' on the NHS. Doesn't it make you feel great to be British to be able to help our immigrant brothers and sisters out of this potential problem?
