I don't think so. The only times I think discipline is the answer is when someone needs to control their tight budget, know when to stop gambling, and refrain from driving while drunk.

Here are examples of why I think discipline is overrated,

1) Look at Stone Cold's rampage in the WWF during the Attitude Era. The only discipline he had was when he was on the football team in college. With discipline, he'd be too tamed and not as entertaining as he was.

2) Did you watch the movie "Major Payne" with
Damon Wayans? Do you remember the scene when that boy's stepfather was about to hit him and almost did if not for Major Payne stopping his hand? The boy was TOO disciplined because he wasn't even gonna defend himself.

3) Did you ever watch "The Lords of Discipline"? Do you remember the first minute of the movie when that guy was SO disciplined that he marched like a little sissy?

SOME discipline is good, but WAY TOO MUCH. Just look at examples 2 and 3 again there...

What do any of your examples have to do with real discipline?

In each of the three you cite, they come from scripted entertainments. If you're going to ask a question like this and hope to get serious answers, please cite actual incidents/situations in your question.

Very good to know you can pick real life examples and not fictional or play acting events to base your opinion on. Discipline is a two sided thing-that which is external and put on you (following orders and obeying rules) and self imposed. Your last two examples are actually examples of lack of self-discipline by the people trying to impose external discipline on some one else. A well disciplined person is as much or more self disciplined (self-control is part of it) then externally disciplined. Your logic set up in your examples do not prove your point-yes people can be too controlled but the control is being exercised by some lacking self-discipline.

Do you think Stone Cold was a couch potato? He got to where he was by being disciplined enough to work out most likely twice a day every day, learn the moves and practice, practice practice.

The rest is Hollywood.

You name a problem, I can probably point out where some form of discipline will either help you out of it or prevent it in the first place. Try me.

Discipline by example of Entertainment?

Using fake examples to prove a point? You said it in #1, it's entertainment.

Without discipline, we would have chaos. Look at the punks (teenagers) running around now. No discipline.

Would you not want our military disciplined? Running around like a bunch of wild animals?

Wow. on a similar time as I believe you with regard to the Republicans blatantly labeling the Democratic occasion with "communism;" i discover your you counter-label the two juvenile, hypocritical and grossly faulty. merely by way of fact the Democrats are no longer foremost us right into a Communism. The Republicans are the two no longer foremost us right into a Fascism. A hassle-loose training in political technological know-how might appropriate everyone of such faulty tests. My argument is that the two events are answerable for the branch interior of our society and we the individuals have allowed them to play warm-button subject concerns as a manner to be divided. A divided residing house can't stand. If we are all coralled into our little warm-button boxes, like stupid livestock, we are in a position to't be a unified human beings to stand up and positively handle the subject concerns dealing with us: like a growing to be debt and growing to be corruption...the two certainly one of that are actively robbing our destiny generations of any risk of fulfillment or desire.

My friend, discipline gives you the hardness to defend your self. Before I was a soldier, I was usually beaten up in bar fights. I would panic and react poorly. With my discipline, I react properly, and put the other sod on the floor with a few teeth missing. It was not from the hand to hand skills taught, but from the discipline I was taught. Not to panic, not to shirk, but to stand and fight, and fight hard.

Technically it takes discipline to come up with an answer otherwise the subject will respond randomly like a day dreaming student.

What are you talking about. It's hard to tell what your saying. Your talking about discipline, but quoting fake wrestling, and horrible movies as examples? Marines are highly disciplined, and they don't march like sissies, nor do they stand there and let themselves get slapped.

1. WWF... a big ACT (and too many people are too stupid to realize that)..
2. A MOVIE
3. A MOVIE.
Do you base your whole life on PLAY ACTING examples?

Discipline: DOING WHAT MUST BE DONE EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IT.

Before self-discipline can be effective a person needs a definite sense of responsibility. In today's world, particularly among the youngsters, the word is meaningless.
