At least I'm not generalizing! Notice- "Some people". I didn't say "All Agnostics or Atheists", b/c I know not everyone is full of hatred. And I'm not smug... Just annoyed.

A big thanks to everyone who gave me well thought out and appropriate answers. I don't like the whole "us against them" mentality. Whether ur Agnostic, Atheist, Muslim, Budhist, Christian, etc., we should all treat each other with respect and kidness. I hope no one took offense to my question. Have a great day!

When a person is angry it is usually because they are HURT. Whether a person is a Christian and hurts when they are constantly ridiculed by some, or feel their faith is attacked, or whether a person who is an Atheist feels they are attacked or demeaned for their lack of religion- it's the same. In either case, I don't believe it is because the person thinks highly of themselves. the rudeness, from either viewpoint, is usually reaction based in hurt and a lack of thinking highly of self.
Sometimes it's a reaction of something a person hears over and over again, whether being told how their faith is a weakness or being told their lack of faith dooms them to hell for eternity or makes them somehow a lesser person.
A person that has a healthy self-esteem won't be shaken in their faith or non-belief in a God because of what someone posts.

I'm actually an Agnostic Spiritualist. I really don't think that people have enough information to prove or disprove the existance of a God. But I feel like there seems to be a spiritual existance to our world. I believe in Evolution and am an Anthropology major. Evolution btw does not neccessarily rule out the existance of a God. I dont try to be rude to people about their beliefs but I do find it rude and ignorant when Christians tell me that I'm going to hell for not believing in their God.

I don't think I'm any better than you. What makes Christians think they're any better than me? I'm constantly judged because I don't believe the way you do. I'm not considered a trustworthy person because I don't believe in god. I am viewed as immoral. I live a good life. I love my family and friends. I give to charities and donate my time. I am not a thief, a murderer, a cheater. But Christians feel they are better than me. I don't feel that I am any better than you. If you truly believe, I respect your beliefs and your feelings.

Well to began I naturally think I'm better than everyone else. However in the case of Christians why do I think I'm better than them is because I can get through life with out a security blanket(god). For me it takes a special person to accept the fact that they're insignificant and that things can't be fixed by simply believing they can.

Could it be that they think that having a "degree" makes them think they are superior to ordinary humankind? I knew that all that book learnin' would do nobody no good. I told 'em.

I'm a nominal Christian, I am wary of today's "organized" religions. Did not Jesus say that whenever two or more were gathered together in his name they were as his church. Yes, I know that God exists just as much as Satan exists.

I have to say I'm one of the few non delivers who are not like that. Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean I'm better then everyone else. But yeah, If I could answer that question I would but I really don't know what people are like that. What you believe is what you believe nothing wrong with that.

But I must say.. At leave WE don't go door-to-door trying to get people to believe in what we believe in

how would you feel if you happened upon a civilization that thought shoes were handcrafted by a divine all powerful being and that the shoe sales people are the children of the divine? Would you be tempted to show them a shoe factory? And if you did and they said, no the factory was planted by the divine to fool people, what exactly will you think of them? How about your thoughts on their intelligence? What if you walked into one of their churches and found a great statue of manolo baunik? Would you worship? would you say, they are respectable people fo good faith? What if they blamed everything that happened on this shoe and gave thanks and prayers to this shoe, then went ahead and killed people who worship boots? What if they decided that the cow and other animal sources of leather are divine messangers and should be revered, would you respectfuly comply?

People are being rude about it on both sides.

And even in the middle (Agnostics).

Those who don't think particularly highly of themselves often don't participate in such conversations.

OK, so now I'm going to be rude:

Militant agnostic: I don't know AND NEITHER DO YOU!

What is so bad about thinking highly of yourself?
Do you have to have low self-esteem to believe in a god who listens to your prayers? I would think it would make you feel very powerful that a god would bother with you.
I think highly of myself because I am smart, capable and nice. I take good care of myself and my family. I love lots of people. I enjoy Yahoo/answers. I enjoy my life.
I think a lot of Christians think they have a corner on truth and god's will. Talk about arrogance!
I do not have a corner on anything except my own life/decisions. I do not know or care what a god's will is since I quit believing in fairy tales at about age 12-13.
I believe in the strength of love to overcome bad things.
I believe in families and friends.
I believe in using my brains to make sense of life.
I believe in using my talents to make the world a better place for myself and others.
I believe religious people as a group are deluded and hypocritical. There are some exceptions, of course.
I think Christians tend to be under-educated about other people's ideas. Like thinking a thought not "Christian approved" will ruin them somehow.
I resent big time, christians trying to legislate how I live based on their book, not mine. I am an American, not a religious zealot.

Dear lady, we don't hate Christians because you believe in something, I'm Russian orthodox, I'm way more Conservative than you, and i hate, YES HATE, almost all of the American christian societies, you people are like cults, extremist, so full of yourself, and that you are the righteous people of god, to be so selfish makes me sick. Christians have more skeletons in the closet than the catholics, and the way you conduct yourself is so far from what the point of what worship and having "Faith" is supposed be its ridiculous.
