My boyfriend just got me a beautiful white gold diamond ring. I'm wondering when should I NOT wear my ring...(ex: shower, gym etc.) or is it ok to always leave it on...?
I'd feel weird taking it off, but I don't want to cause any damage to it.

My biggest concern is wearing it to the gym....I lift weights and wear gloves, but I guess I'm scared of bending the band...I wear my silver rings to the gym all the time and their ok, so is gold more durable/stronger than silver?

I only take mine off when i shower or swim. It is stronger then silver and if something does happen to it when lifting weight you should take it to the jeweler that he got it from and see if there is anything they can do since they sold you a crappy ring and didn't hold up to everyday life...best bet is to get it insured just in case anything should happen.

I don't have an engagement ring (necklace w/pendant instead), but my wedding ring will be made using the diamond setting from my grandmother's ring. I can already tell you I'll not be wearing it at the gym or when going rock climbing. There are too many opportunities to either damage the ring or injure my finger. I may not take it off just to shower, but if I do something like work in the yard or dig in the flower bed, I'll take it off - don't want to get dirt in it.
I thought about only getting a simple band because it's much more practical than the diamond ring, but...it was my grandmother's and has tons of sentimental value.

My engagement ring is made in 10kt white gold, and has diamonds and pink sapphires. I wear it ALL the time, and nothing has happened to it. If you're afraid of damaging it, put it somewhere SAFE!!!!! If you can't find a place to put it, try getting those socks that have little zippers on them (I think Curves makes them and sells them in Avon, but I'm sure there's other places).
Its not the fact that you're taking it off for any other reason than its special to you and you don't want to risk ruining it.

I was the exact same way! I would always take it off to do things like dishes, shower, or the gym in fear of "hurting" it. But now I've realized leaving it on for the dishes won't hurt it, the shower will help clean it, but do take it off at the gym so you don't hurt your finger or the ring. Just keep it safe (and hidden) while its off but don't forget to put it immediately back on afterwards!!

the only time i take my ring off is when i am going to use any harsh chemicals to clean the house, i.e: armstrong cleaner, anything for the floors, softscrub, or anything involving acetone... as the ascetone can eat away the mount in your ring, and some of the other cleaning products as well. If you are worried about damaging your ring when you go to the gym, I would take it off and put it in a small ring box and hide it in your locker so that no one can steal it.

It is based on your need and sense of security. I think you should wear the ring all the time, make sure to have the stone checked as often as you can and once you get married wear just a band to the gym. Ask him, it is a decision for the two of you.

You cannot damage a diamond in normal wear you describe. Diamonds make great engagement rings because they are so durable, unlike some other stones.
I take mine off when I'm just around the house or sleeping, etc. It's just a matter of my personal preference.

My husband doesn't understand the need to take mine off either. I take mine off for kneading bread, some other dirty work like scrubbing floors or dyeing my hair. But I have gotten to the point where I sleep with them on and shower and do dishes with them on. I protect my gold rings too. I'm so scared of losing a stone.

I only take mine off when I shower. I don't want to risk it somehow coming off and going down the drain. Other than that, it stays on. If I go up to Detroit or something though, I turn it around so people only see what looks like a silver band.
When I was a young' un, my mom lost her original diamond down the sink.
I do lift weights occasionally as well, but never had any problem. Just the callouses already on my hands (I don't like gloves...I'm weird like that).

I take my ring off when I go to the gym. I don't want to hit it against anything or damage it. I also see a lot of women wearing their rings when they work out so I guess its just want you are comfortable with. I also take it off for bathing.
