Just because a lot of people believe in Religion it is not considered insane to communicate with a non-existent god. If someone started talking to themself or an imaginary friend people would call them mad or insane. This is just what religion is except that so many people believe it, that is an accepted consensual delusion. Ironic isn't it?

This is a question actually because I am asking for the READERS opinion, so don't make the assumption it is my opinion. Religion is bound to fail, in due time when people start thinking for themselves instead of just believing what they are told(I am not telling you anything, I am just saying you have eyes and ears so learn for yourself). I feel sorry for those who have been convoluted into thinking that something is the way it is "just because". HiStory is a very interesting word, it is "his-story" and just a collection of stories. Just because you see the sun does not mean you should bow down before it and worship it(but this is better than worshiping something that doesn't even exist). If you read religious scriptures you will notice so many contradictions that it is more fictional than accurate. I will not elaborate just saying take off those sunglasses, didn't we used to think African Americans were slaves just within 50 years, look at how much as changed. Change is inevitable.

I think we are deluding ourselves in thinking that the middle ages are over. But honestly I look around and it is like the Enlightenment never happened.

Do you know that from the beginning People like you have been saying the same thing. Where are they now? Jesus Christ was one man who lived in a small village, and in his lifetime probably travelled no more than 100 miles from his place of Birth. He preached the Word of his Father.... who is God, who created all mankind. If Christians are insane to believe in God, can you tell me how the life and preaching of Jesus is still to be heard around the World today. After all he lived in a time without Newspapers, Television, and Radio.
And Yet from a small beginning, only 12 Followers, not the Greatest of Scholars, there are a vast number of Christians today, and yes they are growing in numbers. So, Mock as you will, but remember my friend that God is not mocked, and that Whatsoever you Sow, you will also Reap.

Well, I don't think that's all it is. I think it may be an intrisic step in becoming an intelligent species and achieving a technological society. Spirituality and make-believe is part of our brains. It is a natural extension of our problem solving ability. We only get small amounts of information about our surroundings and our brain fills in the blanks very impressively. Spirituality is a natural extension of our brain's JOB.

Also, religion has been an incredible motivator throughout recorded history and, I would hazard, back in tribal times. Religion unifies a group of people, mostly related to eachother in a tribe, and also divides them from other groups, usually unrelated. It is an evolutionary force, a conquering force, and a technological force. Religion motivated humans to push the boundaries of architecture, art, music, and warfare...yes warfare.

Spirituality, religion, war, and technology are all legs of the same evolutionary beast...us.

Interesting concept really. Sadly though, religion feeds off comments like this. The more you try and prove it false, the stronger it gets. In a way, I agree with you, but in another I don't think it makes them mad. People with imaginary friends aren't labeled insane, just loosly crazy. That imaginary friend though gives them grounds to support theirs lives. God for most people gives them hope, while many atheists manage to derive hope from other places.

Religion has been around since the beginning of man. So all of a sudden it's irrelevant? Take off the denial hat and get a clue. It is MORE logical to infer a Infinite-Personal-Creator than to infer that it all happened by chance.
Your arrogance is unbecoming!

My question is why do you really care that religion is a massive delusion. I mean yes you have woken up and decided to construct reality as it is and not how you wish it. But this question isn't going to convince a Christian that they are delusional. I mean you can't convince them using their own scripture in black and white.

It is not a religion I and alot of others believe in it is God. Religion has never saved the first soul or healed the first person from sickness and so on.

did you know that you've just made yourself a preacher of a religion- evangelical atheism- whether you realize and acknowledge it or not? and did you know that your utopian idea of a peaceful atheist world only works in theory, and never in practice?
