Space is limited in my small apartment, so moving the litter box is not an option. I already have a covered box in a closet that I keep partially closed, but my beagles just can't seem to stay away. Any ideas???

There's a newer type of kitty litter box, I believe it's called "Clever Cat", which has an entry from the top which the dog can't get into. You might consider that because dog just like cat cookies too much. ; )

Not sure how big the closet is, can you raise the litterbox so the dogs can't reach it?

Other than that, either the partial closure (perhaps with a long hook and eye set) or cutting a hole in the door big enough for just the cats but not the dogs is the best option.

Trust me, you will not teach a hound to leave these "yummy treats" alone.

Reprimand and punish them as you would with any other situation (e.g. - going to the bathroom in the house, chewing apart a shoe, etc.).

When our dog is bad, we put her in her kennel for 15 minutes and sternly scold her. She knows she's in trouble and starts to understand that what she's done is bad.

Other than that, make sure you keep the litter box clean. Scoop it out twice a day. I know that's hard to do. I also have a cat and have had this problem with our dog - it's disgusting, right? But if you don't give them anything to eat out of there, they'll loose interest.

Good luck!

With three cat poop loving dogs in my house, I have some experience with this issue.

A covered litterbox will make a difference if you don't already have one. Also, scoop the poop every single day, no exceptions, and use a high quality odor control litter.

Tidy Cat with daily scooping will help keep the dog-drawing odor to a minimum.

I got a spray bottle and filled it with water. When my dog goes near the box I tell her to back up and if she doesn't I spray her with the water. She loves water but HATES the water bottle. Now when I say back up and show her the bottle she walks away from the litter box
