Is some boy trying to get you drunk? Watch him.

To prevent a hangover:
Eat before you drink.
For every drink you have, also have a glass of water.
Take a multivitamin before you go out.

The main causes of a hangover are dehydration and a lack of b-complex vitamins.

As far as not getting wasted and throwing up, just stop drinking when you get a buzz, do not fall into the fallacy that a little alcohol=fun so a lot of alcohol=lots of fun, it don't work that way.

Mass produced American beer (Budwiser, Miller, etc.) will taste terrible to you.

Any decent bottle of wine will taste terrible to you.

Any sweet, girlie cocktail will taste too good to you and you will be hammered.

My recommendation? Order a shot of flavored vodka chilled, Absolut Citron is good. Drink that with a glass of water on the side and see where you are in 30-45 minutes. If you're ready for another, go for it, but be careful after that. Don't have more than one drink an hour the rest of the night or you will be split by the time you are done.

Good luck and have fun!

Edit: Here's my reasoning behind ordering a chilled shot of vodka as opposed to something that seems not so hard core. With a shot, you see exactly how much alcohol you're getting, no mixer to hide it's contents. With a shot, it's over in a second, if pretty much everything will taste bad, why not get it over with? Chilled vodka tastes like water. Plus, no added calories from all those mixed drinks or beers.

If you want to avoid a hangover and getting drunk, have one or two, AT MOST, in the first couple hours to see how they effect you. Some people could drink several and barely feel it, while others if they have two drinks in an hour they will be almost falling over. You don't know your limits, so you really, really need to go slow the first time if you don't want to be sick. I would also stick with something that has very little alcohol in it, something like a beer, or a rum in coke, or something else with a small amount of alcoholic ingredients and a lot of non-alcoholic ingredients. Remember that if you drink something, you very well may take 30 minutes to an hour before you feel the effects, do don't drink a second one right away because you didn't feel the first one in the first 20 minutes, or you may regret it.

Eat an hour or so before you go to the party. Have one drink per hour.... you will know when you start getting tipsy (realistically with your body type, probably after 2 drinks)... then stop drinking for a while and start drinking water.

I also suggest having a glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you have, it will help prevent hangovers... (drink 1 alcoholic beverage, drink a glass of water, drink an alcoholic beverage, drink a glass of water etc) At the end of the night I generaly take a jug of gatorade to bed with me as well to help rehydrate you.

Are you going to a house party or to a bar? Good fruity drinks include sex on the beach, mai tai, margaritas, daqueries, amaretto sours, red bull and jager (Jagerbomb), midori and pineapple, etc. If it's at a party with limited options, try vodka and cranberry, orangejuice (Screwdriver), or pineapple.

Just take it easy, I got WAYYY to drunk the first time I drank, and was still drunk the next morning... you do NOT want to spend your first night partying like that :)

Set your limit at one or two drinks. A glass of white wine might suit you well. Rum and coke is good if you like coke. Ask your host or bartender to go easy on the alcohol in any mixed drinks. If you want to have a glass of something in your hand or with you, drink water or soft drinks in between alcoholic drinks. A glass of water or 7-Up with a twist of lime or lemon will stop most people from pushing more alcohol on you, as it can look like you have one already.

One other thing - if the setting warrants it, be sure to keep your drink with you at all times, or at least where someone you trust is able to watch it. Date rape drugs are all too common, and if you're not used to drinking, you'll have no idea if your drink has been tampered with.

Wine would be a good start but its an aquired taste. Anything mixed with a little rum or vodka is good..you can't taste the liquor so much - just make it something light. A pina colada is nice, fuzzy navels are nice. I would limit it to one or two drinks the first time.

You should be able to tell when u have had enough! But if your not sure... just have one drink at a time and drink slow so that way you will actually feel the effects before it has a chance to sneak up on you

Everyone has gotten drunk before. Don't worry about it, just have a designated driver ready.
