You need to see a doctor when you have black stools unless you ate something that is known to turn stools black. There are a few foods and medications that cause stools to become black, but generally, stools turn black due to internal bleeding in the small intestine or stomach. Internal bleeding often does not cause any pain.

Diarrhea, be it soft brown stool or liquid shooting from its anus, is also a clinical sign to be on the lookout for with any NSAID, including Rimadyl. She does not have dark tarry stool, but diarrhea is not good either so soon after starting Rimadyl. Call your vet in the morning and consult via phone first, as you may be able to just discontinue the medication, resolve the diarrhea, and rule out "coincidence" without paying for another exam, anti-diarrheal meds, antacids, or trying a new NSAID. Good luck!

I have had a run of diahreea this past weekend. I now find that when I go to the bathroom my bowel movements are black. Could that be from the sickness or maybe something else?
Thanks
