When making yeast bread it rises fine the first time but then when it says to place it in a bread pan and wait till it doubles in size again. I leave it sitting longer than the suggest time and still doesn't do much. Any suggestions?

The yeast is fine. It's a new package and it is rising just fine the first time.

I cover it as it says and place it in the oven just on warm.

i made bread last night and i had this same problem happen...it was supposed to rise 1 inch above the pan or double in size...mine only rose about 1/2 inch...after i let it sit for 45 min...so i just put it in the oven and baked it and it actually turned out fine...nice and big and tasted great...
but i would do what others suggested and just put it in a warm spot...otherwise maybe it was one of your ingredients that screwed it up?...just try try and try again

You have to knead the dough for 8-10 minutes in order for it to be light. Test the water by putting your baby finger in it. If it feels nice and warm, it's good. Try not to add flour when kneading, just sprinkle some on your work area. You should be fine next time. Make sure the dough rises in a warm room. Yeast loves being warm.

It's possible that your yeast is old or you proofed it with water that was too hot. Also, don't handle the bread too much after the first rise. Just punch it down once and put it back in the bowl...

Cover w/ a dish towel, and place on top of your dryer while it's running.... or some other warm place. You can even turn your oven on, and set the pan on top of the stove. The radiant heat will help them rise.
