Hi, im 16 and straight and male, my hair is all over the place and I have a medium length style haircut. But I have wavy hair and it goes out of place making me looking like an idiot!

Is it considered "gay" or anything like that for a guy to use straughters? I dont want my hair paper thin or sleek, just tamed a little lol.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think it's gay. Women like guys who take care of themselves. And metrosexuality in men is more accepted now than ever! All joking aside, you shouldn't have to straighten your hair...girls like guys with curly hair too! Try finding a girl who will accept you for who you are!

My brother has been straightening his hair since he was in the 8th grade. He's a freshmen in college now. (oh, and he's also straight) I always (as the younger sister) found it funny. But i can honestly say its a better look for him. He has real thick, curly hair and although they are beautiful curls in general, its not very becoming of him. He's always been real popular and all girls love it. Since he grew to love his thinner, easier to tame hair & he straightens it every day. His guy friends don't find a problem with it or anything either, and actually a lot of guys at my high school do it, so its not out of the ordinary. Like another poster I kind of like it when guys do it.
I'd say go for it.
But if you don't want to look emo then don't comb in your face.
Also, since you may not want to have to get up and straighten it every morning, you should invest in a shower cap. It sounds gay but its also healthier on your hair if you don't wash it everyday. And also, pick up a type of 'silk therapy' to use while you straighten. Iron straighteners dry out your hair, so use any type of hair relaxer to help. Go to your reg. grocery/drug store and find the hair product aisle and look for a section of bottles filled with clear thin gel like stuff. There are many made specifically for hair straightening. Once you find the section of "Bed Head" merchandise (odd shaped, brightly colored bottles) you can pick one out from them, but the other brands will be around there too. But this stuff just keeps you from ironing all the oils out of your hair. When you get it just use little bit at a time, bean sized, and run it through your hair while you're straightening. You can also use baby oil if you cant find what i'm talking about.
Now, straighteners. "Chi" and "Coriolis" straighteners are the best, in my opinion, but they're expensive. BUT they last a really long time. I forget but some brand has one called a "Wet 2 Straight" straightener. It's black and it also works very well. It is made so you can use it on wet or dry hair. You should just get a straightener that is pretty thin, (less than 2 inches wide) B/c as a guy your hair is shorter than girls' and this way it straightens more of your hair, instead of leaving the roots a little wavy.

Hope this helps! Don't think its gay; just go for it!

It’s all a matter of personal opinion, but I think curly hair on a man is attractive. Maybe try some styling products to tame your hair (look for curl specific ones). Straightening is very time consuming and if you sweat, your work is completely useless.

I would say do what you need to but.... I dont really like men that spend more time in the bathroom then me. I like a men who looks like he has a job and works hard. as a hairdresser I think you should be able to control it with a good product. ARTEC TEXTURE SHINE. A very littleafter dry. But do not dry with blowdryer or your hair will be huge. good luck!

Straiten it when you have enough time that you could get in the shower and do something else, then you decide after you straiten it if it looks good or not. Good luck!

it's not gay where i live. [bay area, ca]
but it's only attractive if the guy can pull it off.

and if you're only taming it, then it'll look fine [:
