Absolutely.
Look at the schisms of the Protestant church into multiple different 'species'. Each occupying it's own niche in the societies.
The same applies to the Anglican church, splitting along geographic lines of Europe, America and Africa, again due to differences in those societies.
Look at the papal edicts subtly shifting the direction of the catholic church.
I would claim that Islam has changed very little because, up to about 100 years ago, the Islamic societies changed very little. Islamic fundamentalism is the death throes of the old species trying to resist the change in the Muslim societies as they become westernized (Not Christianized, but westernized, the same way that the Christian societies underwent radical changes 500 to 200 years ago)

I think this applies to the present time as well. Along with human evolution and revolution naturally comes new ideas and beliefs which can, in turn, evolve into new religions and belief systems. All in all, I think all of this goes hand in hand.

every thing under the sun evolves. revolutions occur when one side may dominate another for its own purposes. life is a continual cycle of evolution and revolution.

Note, adaption of christianity into televangelism, so it can proliferate is a meme faster, Note, halloween and christmas diverging from the religious into the commercial. Evolution, Revolution, Adaption, etc.

You're right about that as far as other particulars are concerned. Religion per se, the personal and harmonious relationship with God, however, will be essentially the same.
