2 yr old TC Encore misfired 3 times out of 15 recently on a hunt, hammer not hitting shell hard enough. When I called the factory, the first question I was asked was "do you have a hammer extension on it?" What on earth would this have to do with anything

factory replaced original trigger with their new offset trigger, replaced sear spring, firing pin spring, etc - said weight of extension could affect - which is odd since with a scope no way you could use factory trigger

The problem with adding a hammer extension is that it will add a little extra weight to the hammer. The extra weight will slow the hammer down enough that it might not strike the primer fast enough to cause a detonation.

If you are using a hammer extension, make sure it's as light as possible. If you have a Dremel or other grinding tool, take some of the material off of the bottom. If you're good with that thing, you might also consider taking a little material out of the middle of the hammer spur, where it won't effect structural integrity.

2 possibilites here with a hammer extension. 1. Like fish.. pointed out; the added weight could cause trouble. It would slow down the velocity at which the hammer travels and would reduce the likeliness of firing a primer. 2. Would be improper mounting of a hammer extension. I have one on my Marlin 336 because I use a scope. When I first installed it, it was too low on the hammer and it would prevent the hammer from moving forward enough to hit the firing pin.

I have seen an issue arise with hammer extensions installed off center causing a hammer to drag slightly. Check the sides of the hammer for "drag marks". Try it with the extension removed and use the same ammo. But I need more info, was this with reloads? with one type of ammo only? My first thought would be the ammo, primer seated to deep etc. My second thought would be to check the hammer spring and the firing pin for problems.

The only thing I could possibly imagine is that they think when you pull back on the hammer extension, the hammer might be pulled to the side slightly. This might be pulling it back just far enough to engage the sear but not far enough to give enough power. This is only a guess though.

What might be your problem is the transfer bar. Maybe it got knocked out of alignment or something. Sorry I can't help out more.
