Aren't there any dogs in the UK? If you're concerned, I'd stay local.

I'd agree that there's no way to know if you are being scammed without knowing more. There are breeders that ship worldwide. I don't think that's the best thing. It's very hard on the pup to travel alone like that. Plus won't they have to be quarantined for some time once they get to the UK? I would stay local or at least within Europe so that you could hopefully travel with the dog.
And it's getting cold for a dog to travel as cargo. You want to make sure your pup is alive when it gets to you. Be careful.

Even if youre not its probably a bad idea.
The dog is going to have the in quarantine for awhile.
Most breeds are being bred for a different look in the UK vs the USA, so your dog will likely be the desired English look.
Of course you have the normal mail order animal issues, especially when it comes to problems with the animal, or just not knowing exactly what to expect--all of this will be much much worse when its international.
Good luck, but if possible you should always find a local one. Its best to temperament test if you can, and you should really spend some time with the pup before you decide that its the one for you.
Between transit time and qt time, this pup will have a lot to overcome. He's going to go from life directly with his litter mates to being all alone.

Definitely do your research on the breeder. Make sure that they are registered with the AKC (if you're getting an AKC dog). Also, be leary of pups from the State of Missouri (MO), as that state is known to have a high population of back-yard breeders and puppy mills. Seems that every pet store I go in to out here in CA, they are ALL from MO. Seems odd to me.
Find out if the breeder has any references from previous buyers. Does this breeder have any contacts in the UK? It might be best if you get your pup from within your own country so that you don't have to worry about putting the stress of a long flight on an 8 week old puppy!!
Ask lots of questions, but I would STRONGLY recommend getting a pup from the UK. The thought of "shipping" a puppy just does not sit well with me. This is a live animal, not a piece or luggage. (just my thoughts on the topic).

I'd stay pretty local if I were you. I never buy anything over the Internet, or do any business stuff over the Internet. I can't even go on my mom's eBay account anymore because I've been scammed, and people easily get away with it.
Why don't you find a breeder in the UK. You can visit their house, and meet all of the pups so you can find a true loving connection between you and a pup. :)
I remember when I was looking for my African Grey Congo Parrot, and I found lots and lots saying that they were in my city. Well, I e-mailed the "breeder" and they said, "Oh, yes. We love for you to have dis parrot. We are located in Camaroon, so just send $1000 to (address here)."
Uh, no, I don't think so. Lol.
So, there is a chance of scam.

You might want to be sure that the dog is registered with the A.K.C- in other words the American Kennel Club. They specify the specific traits of the breed that are acceptable. You probably need to email this owner and get the shot records, AKC membership, and papers- (lineage). If this person is honest they won't mind sending you that and anything else you need. Also it's the breeder's job to supply the pup with their first round of shots.
P.S. If available you might get not only the available shot records but all of the medical records.

Well here are a few ways to tell if it is a scam.
1. If the dog has no papers (If it's a pure bred your getting)
2. If they charge you a ridiculous amount of money for him.
3. If they are willing to just give you the dog. Responsible breeders like to know who they are selling their puppies to. They make sure that it is going to be a responsible owner.
I would do some research on the breeder to be sure. You wouldn't want to get scammed, because it is all too easy to do.

It's hard to say, I wouldn't due to I can't see the animal, make sure it's healthy, and it might not be the temperament you want. Someone can explain just how wonderful and beautiful something is and you might not agree once you see it for your own two eyes. I don't think your being scammed (anything is possible), it's just you really should pick our your our new family member.

the only way you could deported to the US if you are an US citizen and renounce your Nigerian citizenship. If you don't want to pay money you are not going to get a visa even to visit the US anyway - not to mention working. If you don't like England you can move to your own country.

the pup will have to go into quarantine when it arrives or have a pet passport which will take almost 6 months to get, why not buy from an English breeder?
