Since the bible was written, translated, edited, rewritten and then translated and edited and rewritten again scores of times by a host of different authors and scholars over a period of hundreds of years, I would say probably not. King James might have had a celebration when his version was done.

Not sure where stupidity comes into play, but most likely they did not throw a party. It is more likely that the first books were reverently made and given to the religious leaders of that time, and later to the followers of the faith. Most likely many people could not afford to purchase books of any kind.
