I don't mean to sound selfish but I just really feel directionless right now and I want to know from those who have or are currently serving how either branch of the forces have benefitted them. Has it given you direction or motivation for other interests and career pursuits in life? I am 28. Am I considered too old to start now?

They can help with college if you decide to go. Can give you great career help also. Also can give you the leadership ability to succeed in the world after you get out.

No I do not think you are too old yet. Sign up as soon as possible. I am not sure of the spelling of the test they make you take. It's ABSTAT I think it's an Aptitude test. It tests you on your knowledge and capacity to learn which will set out which jobs you qualify to do. Also you will have to take a physical test and what not.

Marines and Army are pretty much the same. You would probably want to go into a communications; computer; electronics ( air conditioner/regride tech ectera). or a flightline job of some sort which will help you get a job afterwards. MP might help you get a job as a police officer or more later on.

if you invest right you will have a good retirement fund set up. also if you know how to deal your cards right when leaving you may get some bonuses as well. Also you can sign up for courses to further you education as well.

In the start things are hard and might seem like it's not worth it but it is.

not only to you get a good sense of country and serve your country you can save well for todays hard economy. and because our economy is so 'fallen' you might want to join for a steady job and housing and food. not to mention benefits of health care as well.

My time in the Corps was the best 9 years of my life. The benefit comes from the "intangible" things you gain. Self discipline, integrity, leadership skills, the ability to think under pressure, bearing, pride, the mindset that nothings impossible if you work hard, a sense of accomplishment. No your not to old to start, and I may sound biased, but if your gonna be a bear, be a grizzly.

YOU ARE NEVER TO OLD GRANTED THERE IS AN AGE LIMIT BUT YOU ARE FAR FROM IT. I SERVED FOR SEVEN YEARS I AM 27 I HAD THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE WHILE IN. I EXPERIENCED THINGS THAT I COULD NEVER DO UNLESS I JOINED. I DO NOT REGRET IT. IF THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT DOING GO FOR IT. I AM TELLING YOU THE DISCIPLINE IT INSTILLED IN ME IS PRICELESS AND THE PERSONAL PRIDE YOU RECIEVE IS GREAT. I GO THROUGH LIFE NOW HOLDING MY HEAD UP KNOWING THAT I SERVED MY COUNTRY WENT TO WAR AND THAT IS PROBABLY THE GREATEST ACHIEVMENT IN MY LIFE. PLUS THEY HAVE GOOD SCHOOL BENIFITS AND FREE MEDICAL AND GIVE YOU A PLCE TO STAY FOR FREE CAN'T REALLY DO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT. AND WHEN YOU GET OUT THE VA TAKES REAL GOOD CARE OF YOU.
