We're going to the doctors this afternoon but is there anything I can do for her before then. I don't want to give her tylenol for the fever because I want her to see the doctor with an accurate temperature.

For everyone freaking out I did give her some tylenol. Tylenol or the ER? Fever's aren't that dangerous.
This is from wikipedia:
According to one common rule of thumb, pyrexia (fever) is generally classified for convenience as:
* low grade: 38–39°C (100.4–102.2°F)
* moderate: 39–40°C (102.2–104.0°F)
* high-grade: 40–42°C (104.0–107.6°F)
* hyperpyrexia: over 42°C (107.6°F)
So she has a moderate fever. Nothing worth going to the ER for.

I should have looked here rather than asking Yahoo! answers. They actually gave advice that isn't ridiculous. To many people go the ER for reasons they shouldn't. That's why it takes 3 hours to see the doctor when you go. People go through the ER for a cold.

This is mistake # 1 a lot of parent make. They will believe you if you tell them that your daughter had a high fever you know , but I do not blame you I used to think the same way that the doc actually had to see her with the fever to know whats going on. Well it,s very ,very wrong. PLEASE , give her the medecine you are not helping her if you don,t and make a not of how high her fever was at what time and then write down the time and how low it got after you gave her the medecine .

My daughter used to get chronic urinary tract infections thus came those high fevers. The doctor doesn't need to see a fever unless they're on chemo... which she's not? So definitely give her motrin AND tylenol. I know people are going to be like overdose or whatever but that's what 3 doctors told me to do when a fever gets to 103. Just make sure she gets ONLY the recommended doses of each but they CAN be given together. And definitely do it ASAP because those high fevers CAN cause brain damage.

SO SHE IS .2 DEGREES AWAY FROM THE HIGH GRADE... You do know that once they hit a certain degree that it is dangerous because it can cause brain damage! The doctor will take your word about her fever you should give her some Tylenol. I do understand what your saying about not rushing her to the hospital...But when my oldest son was 2 he had a fever of 103.6 and the doctor said take him to the ER. A moderate fever is not good! A moderate fever can go to Severe REAL FAST! Try a luke warm bath to help break the fever, make sure she is drinking lots of clear fluids..Also, I know when people say take their clothing off to help break the fever..That has never worked for us...We always had them (as babies) with a onsie or tee shirt and a light blanket on them, just enough to make them sweat..that always seemed to break their fever. Good luck

Hi Hun:
I don't want to scare you,but children can run very high fevers and possibly go into a seizure so I would not wait around for the doctor's appointment,I would take her to your local hospital emergency room NOW!
Some doctors or nurses will him and haw about how fevers aren't dangerous until the fever gets up towards 105,BOLOGNA! I don't care if the fever is 101 or 104,ANYTIME a child's fever gets over 102,it is time to seek medical attention and if the doctors or nurses try to blow you off trying to tell you,"not to worry,"or that you are,"overreacting,"I would take her to a doctor that will listen to you,period end of story!
As a parent you know your child better than anybody else,and if you know in your heart and soul that something is seriously wrong with your child,especially running a fever like that,you need to tell the doctors and nurses who won't pull their heads out of their butts,that you know what you are talking about! Sometimes it isn't considered,"polite,"to demand only the best medical care for your child,but at this point,I wouldn't care,if I was called a,"Rhymes with witch,"then so be it!
I have a little girl myself and you had better believe that when it comes to her health,I will fight for her all the way to make sure that she gets only THE BEST medical care that she needs and deserves,especially when she is very ill!
I am sending ((HUGS)) your way and again,stand up and fight for your child's rights,don't let ANY doctor or nurse try to treat you like you are overreacting,you aren't trust me!

Good grief. Apparently either standards are different in the UK and the US for what to do in case of a fever, or these people who are responding don't have kids who ever get sick. Does anyone here actually have a pediatrician who tells them to go to the ER for a child's fever of less than 104?? My kids have had fevers of 104 and even 105, and the doctor has merely calmly advised (over the phone) alternating tylenol and motrin, giving a lukewarm bath, and bringing her to the doctor's office the next morning (although in the case of the 105 fever, I was advised to call back if the fever didn't go down with fever reducers and bath). In your position I'd give the medicine, a lukewarm bath, and call the doctor ... but obviously you've already made that call since you already have an appointment. I totally agree with you that people are overreacting (merely confirming my strong belief that Yahoo Answers isn't the best place for medical advice!). But it's true what people are saying that there's no point waiting till you get to the doctor ... they will believe your reading and you can tell them what time she had the fever reducer. Good luck. Hope she's better soon.

Take her to the Dr's NOW.
and give her the tylenol and tell the doctor what her fever was! Take her in, her fever needs to go down, she could have a seizure.
If her temp wasn't quite so high, I'd say give her a cool bath. But, with a temp this high, the dr's may do that anyway, just take her in!

Take her to the hospital emergency room ASAP! Her temperature is too high. If what she has is bad enough, then it won't matter what you give her because the medication will temporarily break the fever and then it will come back? How long has she had this fever? Have you given her anything beforehand and nothing broke the fever or it came back? I would need a little bit more information to advise you further, but my advice right now is take her to the emergency room!

give her the Tylenol or better yet children's ibuprofen ( Motrin) with a fever that high it is most likely an infection of some sort which they should find fever or not. as well as a tepid bath not to cool you don't want to shock her system, also give her as much fluids as you can ice pops or Popsicles work wonders with a fever
