Im a Mexican American, I dont understand why some people (American, caucasians I really dont know what the right name is) if there are many American Born that have families from all over the world. If my family is Mexican living in the U.S. legally but I was born in the U.S. , do other "Americans" need to call me a beaner???? Or if I was African born in the U.S. what am I supposed to be called? I think that the name calling needs to stop, we are all human beings. Im as much as an American as you people that are blonde or speak english or have light skin. (No offense, Im not wanting to offend anyone) I thought that the real American, the first Americans were the Native American Indians, I dont think they were blonde. So who are we to be name calling people from other countries? This question is not meant to insult anyone from anywhere, like I said Im also an American, but I have a heart too and I dont hate anyone because of their legal status or race.

You can't be more correct. Acceptance for others has became the new curse word. The fact that you don't have some group to look down your nose at seems to make you anathema in today's culture. My view is that we are all children of God, be you African American, Mexican American or White . Be you legal or Illegal ( by official standards. Under God no one is Illegal.) If you must call me something call me "A Child Of God" This is the only fact we need to adhere to. The only name that is true of us all.

People have always called people names. Fatso, pig, 4 eyes, metal mouth, carrot top, you name it....people have been called it whether it was true or not. I'm not saying it's right......I'm just saying it happens. It's not anything NEW. My dad always told me to grow a thick skin. The word holds the power you give it. Guess that's why some groups aren't running to the ACLU and crying "racism" at every turn when someone says something they don't like. I doubt the first Europeans here were "blond" either......don't confuse the white powdered wigs with their natural hair. There's a whole slew of "blonds" out there aren't true blonds.......comes from a bottle. All "brown" skin isn't "natural" either when it comes from a spray job or a tanning booth. All "brown" skin doesn't come from Latino nations either. Seems you need to do a little research of all the different colors of "whites" hair.......from all different countries. Not to mention some genetic mixes of different people.....of different races......before you start throwing stones at the "American born".
I can pretty much guarentee you couldn't tell a Scott from an Irishman from a Canadian from a Norweigen from an Englishman from a Pole from a Frenchman from an Australian from a German from a Russian, Romanian, New Zealander, Greek, from an American......I'll even throw South African in as well as a host of other countries. White doesn't come from just America. Just as all Americans aren't white......and never were. Until language comes in......the new "racism" because even though people came here from all over the world and can speak a slew of different languages.....English is this nations language. Official, or not. It's "official" for citizenship and that's what counts.

Unfortunately, there are people with small minds everywhere. I'm a caucasian myself, and have no problem with anyone who is seeking honest employment, or already working. To me, that's what made America. Effort. Everyone has a racial identity and this is simply human nature. One with differing features is always noticed. What we do after we've seen this person is what seperates us. Each and every culture has something to contribute to the betterment of the whole. And that whole is "America". Even those who would use derrogatory language give us something to detest and overcome. Small people (with small minds, or vocabulary) use small and hurtful words. I know this likely does not answer your question, but thank you for allowing me to express my view. Rise above the pettyness of predudice, we are ALL in this world together, and I'll stand beside anyone, ANYONE, who is willing to end predudice.

You will always find those people who will label others with offensive names, regardless of the issue(s) involved or the people involved. If you don't want to go crazy over it, you've got to be less thin-skinned and develop the ability to ignore the names and recognize those people for what they are - racist bigots.

However, in dealing with the topic of ILLEGAL immigration, I have heard far more racial slurs coming from those activists promoting the illegal's side of the issue than I have from the those people against illegal immigration.

If you are an American, then BE an American! Don't be a Mexican-American or an African-American or an Asian-American! Be willing to uphold the LAWS of our country! Forget the hyphenations and just be AMERICAN! The hyphens are the labels of racism that we must do away with. You are either AMERICAN or you are NOT!

Keep your heritage and be proud of it, but be MORE proud of the country of which you are a citizen! If you prefer the country of your ancestors to the point where you consider your affiliation with that country to be more important than your affiliation with America, then GO back there! We don't need you here!

But if you are willing to give up your former homeland to the point where you learn the language, learn the customs and laws of America and be just as proud to be an American citizen as those willing to fight and die for the American way of life, then you are welcome here, my fellow American!

Okay first off I'm blonde.

Secondly I am half middle eastern, half mutt.

Your accusation that natives weren't blonde could easily be taken as a racist comment.

People say things to me not knowing my heritage - people "assume" that I am of a certain race or ethnicity.

It shouldn't matter what people look like. You seem to feel that because someone else "looks" differently you can place them within your narrow minded confines of what you want their heritage to be.

I don't give a rip where you or anyone else came from. White people may have a minority spouse or may have adopted a minority child. Or a minority may have the same circumstances.

Where I get upset is that you draw a parallel between race/ethnicity and immigration status. THERE IS NOTHING CONNECTING THE TWO THAT MATTERS TO ANYONE BUT YOU!!!!

Anyone who has to resort to name calling is just ignorant. It is a two-way street. Every race and nationality have idiots who use name calling to stir emotions. If you are American you should be concerned with legal status. It is a matter of law and has to be dealt with. I have a heart and as an American we have enough to deal with American problems and not take on the world's

There are derogatory names for almost every American out there. Just because some are Caucasian doesn't mean they don't get the same thing, although their names are more varied....There are mean names for Jewish-Americans, French-Americans, Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans...and so on and so on.

There are also derogatory names for those Americans from the South, from the North, from the East and from the West.

Racial names are a way of separating a race from the whole and continuing the racism that has happened in this country from the beginning. I live in Arkansas, so I knew every racial slur by the time I was in the sixth grade and I admit that I used them without an understanding of what they meant.
There seems to be an overwhelming feeling that Mexicans are taking over our country, just like America thought my Irish ancestors were doing in the mid-1800's. People don't really consider the fact the the baby boomer generation is starting to retire and more workers are going to be needed. These so-called "beaners" will be pumping money into social security to keep all of us in the casinos when we retire. The promblem isn't the Mexicans sneaking across the border, its our immigration policy that makes it tough as hell for a Mexican to live here permanently. I have a close friend that was trying to get her visa extended. She had all sorts of trouble and was going to resort to getting married to stay. She had dual citizenship in Mexico and Germany and found out that if she applied as a German, there would be no trouble. She had her visa in less than a month. That is racism at its worst and it is sponsored by our government.

I agree with you, but take issue with the last line. "I dont hate anyone because of their legal status or race." Race and legal status are not the same thing, and are not even comparable. I have not problem with blacks, Asians, Mexicans, etc.., we are all part of the human race. But I do have a problem with criminals, people who cannot obey the laws of the country they choose to live in do not deserve my respect. Illegal immigrants have been criminals since the day they set foot on this countries soil.
