I know it is different in various places, but maybe some of you can tell me what it would cost at your vet clinic, or average prices.... Thanks!

It depends on what needs to be done, and how bad the break is. I had to take my cat to the doctor this past week, we thought he had broken his leg, fortunately, he didn't, his foot and leg were swollen for unknown reasons. Our vet took x-rays, and wrapped his foot and leg in a ace bandage with a nasty smelling poultice. We take it off in a week. This cost us $200.00 or so.

If you haven't already done so, please take your kitty to a vet as soon as possible. Talk to your vet and see if they will accept payments, if you cannot afford to pay the bill all at once. If your cat does indeed have a broken leg, it could maybe be reset and casted, I don't imagine it would cost more than $250.00 for that. Amputation as a last option I think would be quite spendy.....but it really depends on how bad the injury is. Keep in mind that you will have to pay for an office visit, x rays (they are $75.00 per picture at my vet), medications, surgery fee's if needed, anything extra too.

You should be able to call your vet office and get an estimate on cost. If you don't have a regular vet, call around and talk to a few offices.

Maybe try calling your local ASPCA for their recommendations on a good low cost vet. That's how we found ours 8 years ago, when as a 3 year old my cat quit drinking water and developed a urinary infection. (He's fine now....no more problems.....turned out that he quit drinking water when we moved from well water to city water. He didn't like the taste of the additives...we gave him bottled water until we moved back to where we came from......)

Best of luck to you!

Cost Of A Broken Leg

Your vet's prices depend on where in the country you're located. It's perfectly ok to call them up and ask for the standard rates. And then call all the other vet clinics in your area and ask them, so you get a good comparison.

They have standard rates so you can get a ballpark figure. Complications can raise the amount (type of break, if any damage to the muscles or nerves is involved, if the bone needs to be pinned or cut, etc.) But overall you can get a good idea just by calling and asking.

For a young cat:
Amputation: $800-$1000
Wiring/Pinning: $550-$900

For an older cat:
Amputation: $900-$1300
Wiring/Pinning: $650-$1000

This is a very wide range, and obviously dependent on the nature of the particular injury, which can only be assessed with x-rays and a detailed physical exam. These estimates include only surgery, anesthesia, drug and IV fluid therapy and nursing care, I did not include pre-anesthetic bloodwork or X-rays, which you can add appx $2-400.
