AC is alternating current so the flow of electrons (current in amps) changes directiion as some frequency. In the US, the frequency is 60 Hz or 60 cycles per second. One cycle is where the flow (and the voltage goes from zero to a maximum in one direction back to zero a maximum in the other direction and back to zero). Normal household electricity is 120 volts so the voltage goes from +120 to -120 60 times per second.
DC is direct current so the voltage is constant and the flow of electrons is constant. Batteries provide DC electric power.

DC power flows in one direction, it is commonly used in portable electronics and toys, the power is supplied by batteries or a rectifier that has converted AC power to Dc power. AC power alternates in the direction of flow. the AC stands for, alternating current, it is produced by hydro, atomic fission or heat generated steam that drives generators, it is the power used in households and industries, higher levels of voltage are generated in this way.

AC stands for alternate current... its what kind of current is in a common household outlet
DC is direct current... the most common example of this would be plugging something into a cigarette lighter in your car... this is a Direct Current
