Christ in the NT is shown as a much more compassionate Christ. The OT law was harsh out of necessity to lead the people. Christ brought the fullness of His gospel while He was alive, and revealed that God is a God of love, not just punishment. Although God works according to rules and He is a just God, Christ came and atoned for our sins showing ther mercy of God in allowing us to repent.

John specifically begins his gospel with these words:

"In the beginning was the Word.......and the Word (Christ) was with God.....and the Word (Christ) was God"

I'd say that depicts Him as God Almighty come in the flesh....as promised in Isaiah 7:14

Especially down in verse 14 (of John) when he says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us"
