For hunting ONLY with not too much wasting of ammo at a range I would opt for 22-250. For something more utilitarian then I would go for .223 Remington.

I researched this back a while ago. After reading many many opinions, I concluded the .243 is an excellent caliber for coyotes. It is flat shooting, capable of 300+ yard shots, and ammo is readily available.
Another positive about the .243 is that the heavier ammo is adequate for deer-sized game.
This will be my choice for my next barrel. Hope this helps.

I prefer the .260 on coyote and wolves when using the single shot rifle. Smaller rounds may require more than one shot.

22-250 is a great long reaching varmint round. .223 works very well too, and is a lot less expensive.

.22-250 would be ideal. It has great accuracy and has one of the fastest velocities and longest range of most calibers in its class.

I like .223rem. Versitile and ammo's cheap. If you reload, brass is easy to come by and a diverse number of projetiles.
