The lust for gold will only take an artist so far. You need to like taking pictures and care more than anything about getting it right. - - At least in the beginning. The people who fail as artists are generally the ones who see only dollar signs, and consider learning their craft an irritating obstacle to a large bank account. Think about it.

For every photographer who makes it into the big leagues there are dozens, if not hundreds, more who are struggling to make it.
Photographic skill is obviously very important, but people skills are more important for glamour work. Models don't respond well to photographers who can't communicate. And you need business and marketing skills, or a business manager you trust with your life to do it for you, to survive in the market.

If you ever get to the point where you are photographing professional models and doing magazine cover shoots, then you should expect for your pay to increase in relation to the quality of the work.

You can't just "get into the big photography". You only ever get those jobs based on the quality of your "little photography".
