I try my best to be fair when giving a best answer. I don't necessarily agree with every answer I choose as best. Sometimes I'll give BA to someone because they were very informative and made me look at the issue or question in a new perspective. Like I said, I try my best to always be fair.

No, I don't, but then, I ask few questions, and most are not the agree/disagree kind.
I do not need a "yes person, " if I ask a question, I need answers, and I would pick the best one, even if I disagreed. There is much to say about a well thought out answer, written by someone who really was trying to give an opinion, or be helpful.
I have got best answer rating, and the asker said something to the effect that they liked my answer, but were going to do something else.
I have also not got the best answer rating, and somebody answering, for example :"yeah, baby, go for it!" got the best answer. When answering questions of the opposit sex, it also helps to have a Avatar that is handsome, or pretty, as the case may be.
I've also been one of two answers, one being mine and thought given to it, and the other being something like the above, and the asker has put it up to a vote.
It takes all kinds, I guess that is why we have an Answers!

Honestly, if I already have an answer in mind when I start to ask a question, I don't ask it. That seems to me to be a violation of trust - many people will post what they think to be valid answers that have no chance of winning because they don't happen to match with mine.
I have given best answer a few times to answers I happened not to like too much, but which made a good case for their answer. And conversely I have cancelled questions entirely when I felt that no answer actually addressed the issues I was trying to raise with a question.
I like most to be surprised with some valid aspect of the question that I had not even considered. I've had a few answers that did that quite well. It has to be germane to the answer, though, otherwise they'll just get a compliment.
That's my take, anyway, for what it's worth.

I don't ask very many questions (because I know everything already....JUST KIDDING!!!! [LOL], but the ones I do ask I look either for the most intelligent answer even if it's contrary to my opinion , or else I look for the funniest, least serious answer. Sometimes I might ask a real question I need to know something about, like how to embed an HTML code on a photo website so it plays when i open the photos. In a case like that, I give "best answer" to the person who actually answers the question.

Informative is what matters; which means the person actually cares about helping you, and has put a lot of thought into it.
It also depends on how the answer is postulated: if it's judgemental and unkind, forget it. But if it's sincere, and offered in a tactful way, then one can be much more accepting of an opposing viewpoint.

I generally give best answer to those with the best THOUGHT OUT answer. I really hate copy and paste in an answer and generally will give a thumbs down for it. I also give best answer to some of the funny answers just because it made me laugh...
Depends on what mood I am in, really

I give a best answer to someone who offers a solution or answer to the question that works the best. Sometimes there is no answer that helps so I let yahoo pick it.

It depends on the type of question I asked.
Sometimes I ask questions because I'm looking for information about something I don't know.
Sometimes I ask question to make a point or to preach a sermonette via a question.
However usually I answer questions and rarely do I ask them.

I always gave "Best Answer" to whatever I actually thought was the best answer, whether I agreed with it or not. Sometimes my chosen best answer was based off of whatever feeling it gave me, and sometimes it was the one that made me think the most.
