I am thinking to buy a textbook (2 volumes) from amazon Canada and even with the shipping costs it works out at £180 compared with £291.21 if I buy it from amazon Uk.
So would I have to pay VAT, custom duty or any other charge on the books when I receive the items in UK?

No VAT on books in the UK.
I have never been charged extra when buying books from America.

NO duty, NO VAT.
(Books are exempt from both duty and VAT)
