Good GPS system?

I am looking for a GPS system. I am just wondering which ones you like. I am looking for something reliable of course and hopefully without any updates to buy (or not very often at least) and definately with NO monthly fees. I don't know if this exists but if it does please give me your opinion on the best ones to buy.

I've used a few of these and most are not very easy to use.

My friend has a Garmin Nuvi Widescreen that has a touch screen interface and it is really easy to use - it actually works a lot like Mapquest on the web. These are very small and have North America preloaded and you can get updates when you want them.
