There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

It is generally understood that these were the offspring of fallen angels who had sex with women. They were physically larger in stature & had superhuman powers. Interesting thing about them? Every culture that has hyroglyphics (sp) shows them as larger than the humans they dominated. Scripture records of the Jewish people saying they were as grasshoppers when compared to them. Some cultures refer to them as Titans in their mythology.
There is a religion known as The Enochians who believe some of these (fallen) angels were actually good, & took secrets of the universe from them.
Some people believe these beings are what gave the ancient Egyptians the wisdom to create the pyramids. It does seem odd that people of the Stone Age could come up with such mathmatically perfect structures & suddenly revert back to the Stone Age; eh?
Religion teaches that this was the demonic way of corrupting the human race to prevent the prophesied Messiah from being born through them, as prophesied in Genesis 3:15.

The first humans had long life spans, so they were naturally giants. When the races of Cain and Seth intermarried, they became more giant. Tallness can come from interbreeding distant races.

the reasons I don't believe that Nephilim are giants:
The word Nephilim does not mean giants. We may not know its actual meaning, but it has no connection to any Hebrew word for giants.
The Nephilim are specifically called men, not genetic monstrosities: "mighty men who were of old, the men of renown" (KJV).
The only connection between tall people and the Nephilim of Genesis 6 is one verse (Numbers 13:32) and there are many reasonable explanations for what this one verse means that don't involve viewing the people in Genesis 6 as giants or the offspring of angels & women.
The idea of giant monstrosities doesn't fit the context of wicked human beings who deserve God's judgment. Rather it leads us to pity humanity as victims of angels and monsters, rather than violent, corrupt human beings who God justly condemns to death. (See Genesis 6:15-13 where the emphasis is on mankind's wickedness, mankind's evil thoughts, mankind's corruption, and mankind's violence).

If you hold to the position that angels married humans and produced giants, you must explain three things:
How this idea fits the context.
How the Nephilim could already be on the earth when the angels had sex with the women.
How the Anakites could be genetically related to a giant race that was destroyed by the flood.

up till contemporary centuries, human beings tended to be short, 4-to-5-feet, generally through unfavorable diets. we've been getting taller as we as a society have all started eating extra applicable. Biologically, all of us taller than 7-8 feet tens to run into severe wellness issues; the human physique isn't outfitted for that. So a 'race' of giants probable would max out at 6-7 feet (which could be vast to maximum folk). This hypothetical ethnicity to would be a mix of genetic tendancies to be taller (like at present's Dutch, Scandinavians and specific Aftricans), blended with healthful eating practices. in the event that they did exist, they might have easily blended with different ethnicities, and be ancestors of a lot of human beings alive at present.

God the Father made "man" in His image and likeness The image of God the Father is His Nature, the thoughts that brought God the Father, into being.

The Sons of God are those that were made in the image of God the Father, as He is, not just in His likeness, but as Him.

The fallen are Sons of God, but they are no longer "One with God the Father, they are no longer of His image of His nature.

When the fallen where banished from heaven, to the earth, the darkness, they found that the daughters of men to be real, tangible, they were born as Adam was born with the knowledge of good and evil, as his father, the red dragon knew.

Sons of God=offspring of the Believers
Daughters of men=offspring of the non-believers
The boys married out of the covenant. And what happens whe you marry someone who does not share your faith? You end up with kids who are neither your faith nor your spouse's faith.
"Giants" is a mistranslation. Since the Bible was originally written in HEBREW (not English!) the word should have been translated as "FALLEN".

Quite a few theories on that one: One would be that they are the offspring of demons and humans, thus the need for God to eliminate them.
Some say that they were just giants, and happened to appear. What interests me is the "sons of God" part. It didn't refer to them until this specific chapter. No one really knows. They did however exist up until King Og of Bashan. He was appearently the last. I believe it was after David he died....not sure.

A son of God, is anyone who accepts Him as a Father... same thing as girls... everyone is known as "children of God". However, the bible only speaks about "sons of God" because during that generation.. men had that authority in the community....

The "sons of god" have also been translated as angels. Evidently the angels were more frisky and could visit the physical world then. They certainly lost power by the time of Balaam, when a donkey could easily avoid one set on killing Balaam.

Edit:
Interestingly there is no evidence that our lifespan was longer, then got shorter before it started to increase again.
