There are some states here in the US that still have the death penalty.
I am against it. NOT because I have any moral or religious objection the the idea, far from it. I simply feel that if it is against the law to kill, then the executioners should be considered criminals as the courts constantly say that NO ONE is above the law.
The consiquence of commiting any crime should NEVER be for the criminal to be a victim of that same crime (or someother).
The death penalty law simply places a select few poeple ABOVE the law and allows them to kill with no legal consequences or ramifications.
Either EVERYONE should be allowed to kill or NO ONE should.

It was abolished here 40 years ago.
I'd vote against it on the grounds that far too many high-profile convictions turn out to be unsafe, sometimes years later. The so-called 'Birmingham Six' bombers would have been executed years before their innocence was finally established.
But I'm conflicted, too: if I were offered a choice between time in jail and a (theoretically) painless death I'd take it like a shot.
That's not how many feel, howver.

we dont do it here in Ireland!
i dint think the answer is as simple as yes or no!
many people have been sentenced to death and later been found innocent which is obvioulsly one of the major cons of it, another is the fact that i, as do all Christians/catholics and some other religions, think that no one other then god has the right t take away a life, but paying life for something wrong that you did would be the ultimate payment, especially something gruesome like mass murder, suicide bombing etc or rape, i think that is worse then murder, the victim has the torture of having to life the rest of there life with the horrible memory!!
but anyway, I'm getting a little off track, i suppose all in all, with everything that i can think of, i am against it, but its close!

Im very much against it. In my opinion, we should not be playing God. People, as we know, are capable of doing beyond horrible things. However, I feel as if not enough of us take the time to find out WHY they do what they do hence, react drastically. The death penalty is ridiculous. If you want these people to face consequences for what they do, make them suffer. Not die.

It is legal in my country, but not in my state. I think it COULD be a good deterrent if it were done properly. If someone knew he was going to be executed within 1 year of being caught molesting a child, I guarantee a lot of these crimes would stop. The way the process works, with every two bit lawyer who wants to make a name for themselves looking for an i not dotted or a t not crossed, it is an ineffective form of deterrence.

Yes it is legal
No I am not against it
Kill and be Killed
Sure some innocents may fall through the cracks, but you have to break eggs to make omlettes.
I know that sounds heartless, but it is REALLY hard to be falsly convicted now a days with the DNA and other evidence.
Some people, if they will never recover from criminal lives, and can not show any signs of becoming a functioning member of society, and we can not learn anything new psychologically from them, should be put down.

Illegal here. I am for it. ONLY if for certain the person did commit the crime and there is DNA evidence. I hate the fact of the government taking my tax dollars and putting it toward feeding, housing and educating murders. Look at Carla Homolka. She is now bilingual, has an alias, and a university degree....she is somewhere probably making way more money than I am.

Legal in my country but not my state. (Which means criminals want to be tried by the state and not the feds.)
On an emotional level, I support it. Some of those bastards deserve to die. On a logical level, I'm much more ambivalent.

We hanged our last criminal around the same time as England did in the 1960's. I suppose some people should be executed for heinous crimes. It is only natural justice.
